came home with a stick of pc133 - asked the cashier to enter the coupon code (told her it was OOS online), and ended up paying $30 for 256. It will come to $5 after the rebate...

PNY memory can vary quite a bit based on which chips it uses, which might even vary based on region. I would expect it to run fine at default speeds (unless your particular mobo has it's own set of "issues") but since PNY now sells PC2700 too it might be a bit of a stretch to expect much o'c.

Just scored one... it's with the SpecTek chips - the big 'S'...
For those who wonder...

"Douglas from HardwareZone wrote: "Hi! Just to let you know that we've got another new review posted on our website... [Editor: about PC100 memory] SpecTek" is a company based in the United States which specializes in memory solutions for a wide range of needs from supplying modules for PC motherboards to developing custom RAM for specific needs. It is located in a 170,000 square foot facility in Idaho. Since it is a division of Micron Electronic Inc., it packages DRAM chips supplied to them directly from Micron (which is also based in Idaho). Thus, you can expect quality RAM from them, since they also perform burn-in and testing besides packaging." Thanks! Regards"

It's actually a division of Micron since the PC100 era and the PC2100 performs quite well according to this guide DDR RAM Guide
The Corsair ValueSelect PC-2100 Cas 2.5 using SpecTek chips and according to author, it can go 2-2-2 at 162 FSB and 2.5-3-3 at 170. Not bad in my opinion, considering the price especially.

Thanks jimmyhaha!

My Dad works for Specktek. They thoroughly burn in and test this stuff, and anyway, it is really just Micron memory which we know is good anyways......

Just fyi,

I did a little research into the SDRAM and found out the main issue is density, not mhz. The PNY 256MB PC133 is 32Mbit x 64. That is a high density chip. Low density chips are usually 16Mbit. Problems may arise if you try to install this chip into a motherboard that was manufactured in 1999 or earlier. What I did is go to crucial and enter in my motherboard's model # and check what types of chips it supports. That will give you a good idea on what type of density your mobo can handle. Also, just because your mobo can handle high density chips don't think it can handle 512MB now. Some motherboards have more address lines than others and can handle bigger MB chips.

* update *

Apparently that post was in vain. They have removed item # 755841 from the site, effectively killing that deal.

When I try to add 256mb pc133 755841 to cart, it says "item was not added" , but doesn't say OOS or any other reason, what's up?

NeoKen:
For my own education, how do I read from the chips to see if they're 6ns or not?
-----
You should see a 6 on the right side of the chips.

gave up online, went to B&M, they had about 5 in the cabinet. Snagged one for $20, still not a bad deal IMO

Hey guys, anyone tried this deal lately? I went to the OD website and had a heck of a time finding the RAM to begin with, but once I finally did, it was coming up for $99... I took it all the way to the checkout and it still had that, so I didn't order yet. Never had a problem getting in on any other deals with them, but this one is giving me some trouble!

Edit: Just found the right price in the online ad paper, and called the local OD. They have 12 in stock right now! I'm on my way there in the morning to pick mine up! Thanks everyone Guess this one is B&M only!

Thanks,
Jeff

Is there a program that analyzes all your sticks of ram and tells you which one is better so you can decide which one to keep.

You can use Sisoft Sandra to read the SPD programmed timings, but that only tells you what it's spec'd to run at... For the "true" measure you really have to manually adjust their timings, bus speed, then run Memtest86 loops. The testing process goes a lot faster if you start out running only test #5, adjusting 'till you get no errors there at fastest possible settings, then run the whole loop [all tests] for a few hours.

Just got back from my local OD... They still have about 10 of these puppies on the shelf in Fayetteville, GA if anyone around here is looking to get in on this one! I got out for $36 before rebate with the ever popular paperclips Good luck to everyone else looking for this one!

Thanks again!

How do you identify the chips as 6ns or 2700?

Mine has an "S" symbol on the left side, and the code on it are

AC 0306
S80032VMCTW
-75A

The "-75A" means they're 7.5 ns, but to be clear, that's a DDR module or a PC133?

for those who will go to a real store (B&M), you can have OD price match COMPUSA (both are selling PNY sticks) and then use your $15 off $30 coupon (for those who actually got a coupon in the mail) and basically get it for free (just pay tax).

so:
49.84 (OD price)
-4.85 (difference, PM to compusa)
+x.xx (tax)
-15.00 (coupon of min. $30)
-30.00 (rebate)

=x.xx-0.01 (all you pay is tax minus a penny)
