Update

Just received my card. Mine is the NV44 core, so no unlocking. There is no fan on the card either -- just a standard black heatsink for the core (looks like the 256mb version here: 6200 ). But this is going in my HTPC so I'm happy about not having a fan (core is idling at 50C). Rivatuner actually showed the speeds as 351mhz for the core and 658mhz for the memory (which seems a little odd).

Also, there is NO UPC on the box (there area where the UPC would be is actually cut out!). The UPC sticker is on the card and the sticker says that the warranty is VOID if it is removed. Plus the rebate form does ask for the original UPC sticker...so this presents a bit of a problem. May have to contact PNY / Newegg and determine what the hell they actually want you to do for this rebate.

Rejection #1 no UPC - BS because the PNY box from Newegg does not have a UPC and indeed the rebate form does not ask for it, instead asking for a "Proof of Purchase" and gives a sample picture. The "PoP" is a trapezoidal shaped thing on the box that says "Proof of Purchase" and has a dotted line around it, just like the sample on the rebate form...

Don't say I didn't warn ya! :| They used that as an excuse to reject my rebate.

Well I got mine in... unlike the other poster I did have a UPC... and unfortunately I also have an active cooler.... =/ This went into a DVR rig along with that sempron/mobo deal from outpost...

runs GREAT! Now I just need to get a passive heatsink.

Recieved mine yesterday, it has a fan as shown in the picture. There is no standard UPC on the box, just a little cutout area that says proof of purchase. So I'm thinking you can send that in instead of the UPC anyone know for sure?

The 5600U should be a little faster, but the PureVideo capabilities of the 6200 could make it a better choice for the HTPC.

The cut out hole on the back of the box is a window to the back of the card. The UPC is a sticker on the back of the actual card itself. Since the rebate form clearly ask for the UPC, I wouldn't dare risk sending the POP instead. Easy rejection.

I would say install the card, make sure it working properly. If so, then remove the card and then the sticker.

Mine also came with active cooling.

Active cooling here as well. While POP has no barcode it appears to have the numbers of the UPC printed on it. Very confusing...

That's weird that all of you are getting cards with active cooling. Mine looks identical to the 256MB version so I wonder if they just disabled some of the ram on this one...

Anyone with the active cooling take a look at what mhz the ram is running at?

I think even a Ti4200, a card from 2 generations ago that was supposed to be on the same price level, would smoke it. A 9700 Pro kills this card, and a 9800 Pro/XT or x800XT or 6600GT on up absolutely smoke this card even if it mods to a vanilla 6600, unless you have phase change cooling and somehow overclock it to about 9 GHz core/mem. In other words, this is NOT a gaming card.

The one I just got is active cooling too. Like DK said the UPC is on the card. The only bad thing is it says "Warranty Void If Removed". So, it's either keep the warranty and not get the rebate or void the warranty and get the rebate! They should have to give people double the rebate for the hassle and confusion they caused by this. Bunch of morons.

Received my 6200 today. It is replacing an overclocked Gainward Golden Sample TI4200 128 meg card. Installed in AMD Athalon 3200 also overclocked. 1Gig ram. My 3DMark 03 score was 1780 @ 1024X768. The 6200, same drivers gave me 2545 so I consider it $30 well invested. 6200 has active cooling and is showing temps below 50 deg C under load. 3April-Card is overclocked with coolbits to 389MHz core and 589MHz memory. Getting 2940 on 3DMark 03 after overclock. This is a card that supposedly could not overclock. I'm happy

It's not going to really come close to a TI4200 for DX7 / DX8 games. I ran 3dmark 2001se with the 6200 on my work computer (P4 2.4ghz / 512MB) and it scored 7329. With a TI4200 on a P4 2.4 I use to get around 11500. The Nature scene for example gave about 31 fps vs 70fps for the TI4200.

This isn't a gaming card. The benefits are that you'll get a DX9 compatible card that can do Purevideo, so movies etc should look better and consume less CPU. You probably won't be able to play H.264 movies with a TI4200 but you can with a 6200.

Simple, the GF4 Ti4200 only supports DX8 in hardware and thus, cannot run the DX9 fourth test in 3DMark 03, whereas the GF 6200 is a DX9 card and can run that test. Test both cards on 3DMark 2001SE instead to see the speed difference.

I reinstalled the 4200 and ran 3D Mark 2001 with the card overclocked as it had been. I got 10850. I ran it on the 6200 and got 9660. There is a difference but I do find that the apps I use run better and smoother with the 6200. I notice it runs much cooler than the 4200. Still consider it an excellent buy for $30.

How does this card compare to the Geforce FX5500 256MB 128-bit that is also $54 at newegg but only has a $15 rebate discussed here:

FX5500 $54 - $15 rebate

The differences in the specs:

FX5500
Core clock 270MHz
Memory Clock 400MHz
Memory Size 256MB
Memory Interface 128-bit

6200
Core clock 350MHz
PixelPipelines 4
Memory Clock 500MHz
Memory Size 128MB
Memory Interface 64-bit

Here is a comparison I tried to make, but I don't think its accurate because it appears that the FX5500 in the comparison is only a 64MB version:

FX5500 vs 6200

Although this test does not specify how much or what type of RAM the FX5500 has in the test card, it clearly shows the 6200 beating the FX5500:

6200 vs FX5500

So the question is, would the FX5500 128-bit 256MB of RAM make a difference over the 64-bit 128MB of the 6200?

5500 gets spanked either way. Here's a review of the 128bit/256mb:

http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/fx5500/index6.php

And if you check futuremark you won't see a 5500 get above 400pts in 3dmark2005. Also, the 5500 doesn't support purevideo...so the 6200 is a much better buy.

I still wouldn't plan on playing any new games on it...but it's a good budget card.
