Worth upgrading from hd5870?

I think so, especially for that price. That was my upgrade path. On my desktop the 5870 at max OC could not benchmark as high as 7850 stock. Factor in an ebay sales price of at least $60.- for the used 5870 and this is a cheap upgrade.

No reviews on the egg for this card though...... could be a gamble.... looks like the same design as their OOS 7870 though

It depends on what's important to you. The performance increase won't be much at all, but the power consumption will be less. I didn't find this price to be that great, honestly. I ordered an XFX HD7870 for $135 after rebate, so it's a comparable deal to that. Decent but not "hot" IMO.

Even if you needed the extra VRAM, I'd still say it is not woth it. You'd be better off waiting for a better deal or getting a used 2GB GTX 660 or 7870/270 for ~$150. That's the lowest I would go to consider it a worthy upgrade.

7850 and 5870 are roughly equal in performance, 7850 might be 5-10% faster on average, which is definitely not worth the $$ even if you were able to sell your 5870.

I  my Sapphire 5870.... 400kH/s at stock speeds but damn does it run toasty hot (low 90s*C). I even have the side panel off and fan cranked up at 100% + it's in a relatively cold living room (low-mid 60s*F). However, i was able to undervolt it and get the temps down to reasonable levels!

But I digress.... I would vouch for this card though. Powercolor is also a legit brand and they have excellent customer service. It has been a while since we have seen a good deal on a ~$100 video card, and this one definitely takes the cake.

I got my XFX 7850 1GB Core for less than $90 after MIR & masterpass promo, so I got spoiled :$

I'll take a used 5870 for $60 any day!

I was actually thinking about selling my 5870 on ebay and upgrading. They're going for about $150 right now with some people able to get $200 on one. I just couldn't justify spending more money on my computer for an upgrade though.

I have no clue how or why people would pay $200 for a 5870... Even $150 is ridiculous.

At the current rate of $180, a 270 is superior to a 5870 in every way. Gaming and mining performance. It also uses a lot less power and comes with a warranty...

I picked one of these up in November, I was hesitant at first because of the brand and reviews, but so far so good. I went from a x1900xt to this, i have no complaints as far as frames per second goes. The price is the best thing going for it though.

Powecolor phone support is amazing. No stupid robots answering the phone... The 3 times I have called them in the past week, someone answered the phone after the first ring and was able to address my issue extremely quickly and efficiently!

Description says PCI-E 2.1, aren't all AMD 7850's actually PCI-E "3" ?

If this Card is actually PCI-E "3" then I think I'll buy one, should be a huge upgrade from the HD 4850 I'm using now

That's a 6x upgrade. Yeah,you should notice it.

That's almost a 3x upgrade. And yes, it should be PCIe 3.0, not that it would matter at this performance level. You are already cpu-limited, though, so keep that in mind.

would this be an upgrade from 2 nvidia 460's in sli ?

I was looking at the $200 760 in another add. I need to upgrade, wanted a 290 but the prices are crazy.

I "pulled-the-trigger", bought one of these about 5 minutes ago.

I'm guessing (Hoping) that 2.1 in the description is actually a Typo and that this Card is actually version 3.0.

This Card will be CPU Bottle-Necked by my present setup, but I'll be building a new PC in a couple months that will alleviate that problem. For now though it should still be a nice upgrade to my aging 4850.

Would be a downgrade in many games, might pull even in some due to VRAM. The 7850 is only about 50% faster than one of your cards.

GTX760 is twice as fast as one 460, even with two in pure processing power but has double the vram.

Yea, it is really starting to get blurry what exactly is an upgrade. I've held onto my single 480 simply because I haven't hit an area where it's been an issue and it really seems that many of these newer cards are sidegrades unless you are worried about power consumption or heat. All the raw power cards that are obvious upgrades are too pricey.

Yup. I can't believe its been 4 years since I've built my computer and I haven't done any major upgrades.

You do have to keep in mind the price at which products were purchased.

In Fall 2009, the HD 5870 was released at $380.
In Spring 2010, the GTX 480 was released at $500.
In Spring of 2012, the HD 7850 was released at $250.

All three are very similar in performance (the 5870 is perhaps 20% slower).

You can now buy an HD 7850 for $120 (and in fact could late last year as well). You're getting the same performance for 1/3 to 1/4 the price of 4 years ago. To truly judge whether there's been progress, you need to look at a comparably-priced product. Today's $500 GTX 780 is twice as fast as the GTX 480 from four years ago, thus there's been a doubling of power at the same price.

Deal is still Good at Newegg.

This 7850 arrived for me Yesterday. It is in fact only 2.1 PCIe.

This Card runs Cool, plays Star Wars the Old Republic at 41C at 30% Fan Speed.

Fan is Quiet (no air noise) but the Fan Rattles. The Rattle seems to be a common problem judging by the Reviews at Newegg. Hopefully I can find a Fix for the Rattle, I'd rather not have to RMA it, probably would just get another rattling Card anyway.

So far a Very Good Performer for the Price $, but that Rattle can be annoying.
