No, I don't think it can do portrait. I've tried twisting it briefly, and it doesn't have any other obvious mechanism

But, I must say, this monitor is amazing. It's huge. I had a 17inch CRT, and knew people with 19" and 21" monsters. This thing gives you the benefit of that much size, without having to lug a anvil around. It's cool, fairly thin, and looks like it's a USB hub. The analog cable included looks to be fairly short, ~3 feet, and a AC adapter hooks up to the traditional monitor type plug (extra length).

Mine has 2 bad pixels--one that's a bright pure blue whenever the screen is on, and one that's a little less messed up, but still blue. I don't know if it's worth the hassle sending it back. I have a 4 year warranty on it, so I guess I could always change my mind.

When I first booted up, there were some image errors--parts of the screen wouldn't have static colors, it'd speckle a bit. I installed the new catalyst drivers, and let Windows detect and all, and that problem is completely fixed. Cleartype works great, and overall the image is just as clear as my CRT. I played a DVD, and noticed absolutely no ghosting, a couple minutes of CS, and the new JK demo. No appreciable ghosting. When scrolling through a webpage, it's noticable, but not important.

The viewing angle is kinda small, at this distance (~2.5 feet?) you almost start to see a little color variation at the bottom, but it's really not a problem. It's so great!

Now, a couple questions for everyone: is there software that'll help me 'optimize' my settings? What in general am supposed to do? I've just upped the contrast a lot, so far.

[Edit:] Note this is just using the analog cable so far. I still haven't even gotten a confirmation from belial. More reports when I get it in the mail, of course.

Does DVI matter much on newer Nvidia cards? I hear the new ramdac does a decent job of converting digital to analog...

Ok, so if I buy this monitor and then buy a video card (Geforce4 Ti 4200 w/DVI), which exact DVI cable would I need and where could I buy it?

From German site http://www.hardware-guide.de/servlet/PRating2?action=show&nummer=17629

"Two hearts beat in my chest! One the one hand the brilliant color representation (for picture work), quick response rate (for games and video), good compatibility (cables and connections), also a good design and a favorable price, on the other hand....the very uneven brightness distribution (darkens from down upwards) that I personally find disturbing! Quite unfortunate, since the panel would otherwise be perfect!"

So I guess at $500ish ($550ish for CA residents), you can either go for Envision/CTX for a perfect display but some ghosting, or for the Hyundai for no ghosting but brightness unevenness. I personally can't pick :-(

Can anyone here confirm the brightness unevenness?

(schizo, this lcd can do DVI-I, but you probably don't know about the g4, so go with a DVI-D cable just to make sure)

It showed up when I bought it. But the invoice with the package said no tax. Dunno what was really charged (graduation present).

I bought with an Amex Blue.

This LCD rocks. I have absolutely no complaints. DVI cable shipped, will post review ASA I get it.

The invoice doesn't match the purchase page? Ew. Well, as long as we pay less What does your cc account say? If there's no tax to CA I'll buy this right away hehe.

PS: can you check if there's down-upwards darkening of the screen, as others mentioned?

shoot. There is tax on the invoice. There wasn't tax on the email confirmation, that's it. I'm stlil not sure what my parents ultimately paid for it. Maybe I'll ask tonight. I don't have the resources to check directly.

There is no noticeable gradient, though, as I've said, the viewing angle seems fairly small. It gets weird from strange angles, but it is still definitely worth the money. You have no business trying to work at your computer, 2 feet to the right of the monitor.

Wondering if at $598 - $50 MIR shipped (discover 10%, without ebates) to CA, the Samsung 760v isn't a better deal at buy.com... also 25ms response and good colors... maybe a $100 MIR after July31. (the current $100 MIR only works at outpost)

Need I remind you that the L70A has DVI?

[Edit:] And that it is a USB Hub?
[Edit:] Or about its long AC adapter and superior lack of ghosting?

Sur those are plusses, although fafafooey said DVI vs VGA on this card isn't obvious. Superior lack of ghosting... well, until they can be compared side by side, they are both 25ms and supposedly don't ghost much... so dunno.

My current Syncmaster 570s doesn't ghost noticeably at all in games so maybe the "Samsung" brand thing is influencing me

I'm sold on this LCD but I really want the silver version. One user mentioned this color can only be found in Europe. Has anyone found the silver version in the good ol' USA?

Several sites at Yahoo! shopping sell this LCD but none mention color.

Yahoo List

Please help!

Thank you.

Another forum member and I both contacted a Hyundai sales agent - he said the silver version is sold exclusively in the European market, and the North American market is stuck with the white one .

Unless you find a European store willing to ship overseas, we're all stuck with white.

No spec sheet attests to the samsung 25ms, but zdnet says it...
http://www.zdnet.com/supercenter/stories/review/0,12070,538294,00.html

Syncmasters aren't necessarily all perfect... go to neoseeker.com and tweaknews.net for other reviews. After 50MIR (goes to slow Miami rebate center), the Syncmaster will cost the same as the Hyundai (shipped to CA that is).

From the reviews and posts in this thread:
Samsung 760v: famous brand, good colors, no dvi, "some" ghosting, "somewhat" blurrier text (e.g. 7pt and 8pt fonts)
Hyundai L70a: "no" ghosting, dvi, "better" text, "somewat" washed out, "some" difference in contrast from top to bottom

And yes, I am not sure myself either which one to pick, they both suck I mean if we want a perfect lcd, we are expected to spend more than $550 for it... so picking between those two is gonna be a gamble.

Right now the Hyundai might sound better because of DVI and not having to wait for the MIR... but I might change my mind again.

PS: silver l70a selling in this town (Europe for summer) for $660... not sure if silver is worth $100 extra hehe.
PPS: we're still waiting for some of you to compare Hyundai DVI vs VGA on a Geforce card... c'mon guys

I haven't noticed any washed out colors, but the only other LCD I've used is a Dell 1503fp--no noticeable difference.

My DVI cable has been delivered. I'll try to review it whenever it gets to my room. Quit yer whinin'

[Edit:] Still not here.

What do you guys think about the LGX173? At $523 shipped, it looks ok... Other than no DVI, it has built-in speakers & USB hub as well. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah... it's also silver/black...

Update to my previous post...

I received my RMA replacement today for monitor #2 (sent UPS 2nd day air). Not really that bad of timing considering I mailed it back on 6/24 -- of course I would have preferred to secure an advance replacement with my credit card.

Upon requesting an RMA from Esystor, I was promised a brand new replacement -- not remanufactured. However, the replacement I received today did not "appear" to be new. The box was missing the user manual and the casing was dirty. It looked like a lot of dirty fingers were handling this LCD before it reached me. Perhaps someone just took the time to test my replacement before sending it out.

After plugging it in, the first thing I did was check for bad pixels -- after all, that's why I returned this LCD in the first place. I'm happy to report there was not a single one. Curiously though, this replacement did not match the color settings of its twin. I double checked and both LCDs were set to digital mode, and both had exactly the same default settings for brightness, contrast, hue, and flesh tone. Despite this, it was easy to observe a difference when I stretched out a single background across the two.

Ultimately, I was able to dial everything in so that I had a uniform (and great looking) display across the two of these LCDs. Strangely, I had to adjust the hardware controls on each LCD independently to different levels, and then make the final adjustments through color calibration software. A little Windex got rid of the dirty fingerprints.

Overall I'm still a very satisfied customer, and quite happy with my purchase.

By the way, I'm not seeing the 'washed-out colors' that a few others seem to be reporting here. Try using the colorific calibration tool available for free at http://www.ecolor.com and see if it corrects your problem.
