At this german site it says that the monitor should be able to swivel to a vertical position... I think. Altavista only has a half-decent translation.

In addition, this is the pixel replacement policy, if anyone can understand it:

Dear XXXXX,
Thanks for the e-mail,

Our policy of dead pixel is below.

Man..I wish I jumped on this deal before the price increase. Do you think this LCD is ideal for a college freshman and worth the price?

Bit the big one and ordered three today. It says two per customer but it let me order three. Will let you know what happens. If they cancel one I will just have a friend order one for me.
Also found some nice pics of the Euro version HERE
When the parhelia ships I will have the setup for THIS

I got mine on Friday and I LOVE IT! It is a very, very nice monitor for the price and after my 17" CRT, this looks huge! I still have to install Windows XP (I want the ClearType action) as I am running 2000 pro right now. And when I get my DVI cable this week in the mail, it will be even better. I have no dead pixels, and although the viewing angle is rather small, I found the colors to be bright and crisp with no signs of wash out. Very satisfied.

I got my DVI cord from Belial, and it's the right type. I plugged it it, and was sorta disappointed that I had to reboot in order to get it recognized (prob since the analog and DVI were coming from the same card.) I can't really tell much of a difference between the two, because I can't test them side by side. But it looks awesome

Any leads of a cheaper price for us Amex users?

Just curious what the actual screen size is. I would be upgrading from a 19" Samsung 900SL monitor (~18" viewable)? I cant find the specs now. I have heard the viewable size is larger on LCDs than regular CRTs. Would I be stepping down if I bought this? Or is it about the same size screen? Looks like a killer deal. Not sure if I can afford the $500 yet

According to Samsung.com my monitor is 18" viewable. Are these 17" VIEWABLE or less? I could handle an inch I think but any less would be too much of a step down.. I LOVE my big screen!!!!

LCD sizes are listed as viewable, so 17" is how much screen real estate you have.

just got mine in today. it's very nice. they're right about the cables.. it is a bit annoying to plug in. i'm using the dvi cable from buy.com. i watched some movies and didn't notice any ghosting. no dead pixels. played some cs, but half-life doesn't support 1280x1024 though it does still look decent. should be nice to talk to college w/ me.
it took 2 days for the order to process and 1 week to arrive. ups.

Ok here's the scoup, I've had mine for about two weeks now. As you all know it only comes with an analog cable so I had to wait a few days to try out the DVI. The analog quality is decent, the viewing angle is very disappointing. When viewing the LCD from 2 feet away, the top of the LCD is dark and dull where the bottom looks normal, bright and vivid. This means to get a decent image you have to push the bottom of the LCD down and away from you so you are viewing the LCD from a top angle. This is on a Gainward GeForce 3 by the way. Being an optimist I hoped the DVI would help out a little bit. I used a StarTech DVI cable I bought from buy.com . The quality of the cable was very nice, more then I expected for 13 bucks.

When I first hooked up the DVI cable, It was displaying weird lines and it wasn't working very well. It kicked in within a few seconds and started to display properly. I'm guessing this had to do with it changing over from Analog to DVI. When I got in windows the image also had those lines all over the place, it wouldn't correct itself until I rebooted the computer. This could have been a driver problem.

After all the kinks had been worked out the DVI connection seemed to help out a little bit, the picture was overall a bit brighter and more clear but not a HUGE difference as many would try to make it out to be. However the viewing angle still suffered. When compared to my 19" Planar LCD there is just no comparison. The Planar is brighter, has no viewing angle problems, and the colors are more vivid and accurate. The colors on the L70A seem like someone has smeared tobacco tar all over the screen.

Now for the next chapter of my story. After a few days of use the LCD started to randomly turn off/on and display display these really nasty lines all over the screen. I double checked all connections, and moved all the cables away from other cables to reduce the possibility of interference. This seemed to help a little bit but it was still randomly happening at times. I'm guessing it's a power problem with the LCD.

So right now I'm in the processing of trying to get it RMA'ed with eSystor. I wrote them an e-mail 2 days ago and haven't got a response. I've called them several times and always get an answering machine.

In conclusion, I would still recommend getting this LCD. The quality with a DVI cable for this price class is very respectable. Hopefully my power problem was a fluke as I haven't read any other complaints so far. If you do order it I would think twice about buying from eSystor, save yourself the headache and buy it elsewhere.

If you have $400 more to spare, defiantly go with a 19" Planar. You will not be disappointed.
