I use my 40" LCD as a primary PC display, ive had several models of 720p and 1080p (My last 1080p displays were Samsung 450 series, Sony 40S4100, and now a Sharp 40 E77U) I Notice the difference VERY much... this is because i sit 3-5 feet from the monitor while gaming

Now if i sat further back im sure i would not notice

just my 2 c

Links dead btw but this is a GREAT DEAL - and i might jump on it for my new living room thanks OP!

Oh well. The deal is finally dead. BB has it for $699+tax.

However the best replacement for it is availible at the Egg for $650 shipped.

The SAMSUNG 42" 720p Plasma HDTV PN42A450

LINKY

It is a great Plasma deal too.

As for the Samsung PN42A450, I bought a Samsung PN42A400 from BJ's on sale last year on their black Friday weekend. I love it and it stays on almost 24/7 in my house. I paid $699 for it and the real beauty was the 2 year extended warranty (replacement) only cost $39.99 for items up to $749. So, I got the second and third year of coverage for $20 each. There is something to be said for the instant gratification factor as well as the ease of return if something is wrong.

Check BJ's if you have one local. Last time I went there they were carrying the Samsung 42" PN42A430. The main difference is the number of inputs. If I remember the 450 series has on more HDMI, which is located on the right side of the TV. Sorry, I can't remember the price, but I remember thinking that it had come down to a similar price that I paid on black Friday.

BTW: I took the $300 I saved over buying a 40" Samsung LCD and put it towards a Home Theater system. Those guys over at AVS forums really helped me figure out what to get.

What? It's a TV watch it enjoy it. If you really have to worry about power consumption when watching TV, you shouldn't have a TV in the 1st place.

That being said, I love my 42" Plasma TV. Has a great picture and I'd be hard pressed to see the difference between 720p and 1080p .

Just got this over the weekend, I missed the deal so I had to spend an extra $80 at Best Buy. Well worth it, this TV looks amazing. It has a pretty damn good reputation at AVS, and the 720p is not an issue.

I'd recommend grabbing one of these soon as they are being replaced by the 'C1' which is a little cheaper and a lesser known quantity (I could not find a single review online).

You still owe the sales tax legally. I spent hundreds in sales tax on my tax return last year for Amazon and Woot.

I am not an account so I may be wrong. But my understanding is that you are supposed to do it (paying state tax for your un-taxed on-line purchases) as long as your resident state has sales tax. Now, I am not sure how many people are actually doing it.

Let's face it, sooner or later, all on-line purchases will rquire state/local sales taxes.

yeah, technically you have to do it. obviously no one does.

I mean its only a matter of time before they force companies to hold the tax etc. I mean with states like CA going bankrupt and stupidly raising their sales taxes (Which just causes even more people to buy on say amazon), its only a matter of time before even the idiots in state govt will figure out where the money is going.

Might as well take advantage of it while you can I guess, but we all know its going to happen sooner or later.

gee i wonder why Calif. is going bankrupt. Its NOT because everyone isn't paying their online taxes from purchases.

As the gov't gets further in debt they just want to tax tax tax more an more. Not gonna fly in the long haul.

Its a dvd / hd tv imho not a gaming tv and I dont think they get stuck pixels.

I hooked it up to my pc via a HDMI and it works but my LCD was better.

Just follow the advice on the AVS forums on how to set it up and it is worth the price.

My neighbor has this tv and I wasn't impressed at all. The "jaggies" were definitely noticable to me. Was his tv not set up properly or what? I have a 1080p 42", so I really only have it to compare it to.

It can be a great set, however outdated technology, so there is no surprise that price is low. I wouldn't pay such money, unless I really have spare ones.

Some people are missing the point.

It's a 42" screen.

It is a Quality TV and it has a great reputation.

It is not outdated. It is the latest 720p Panel from Panasonic with all the latest features possible except 1080p.

It has a great picture that can't be beat if you watch from 6ft away minimum.

Find a better QUALITY 42" TV for this price is the reason for this posting.

Is it true that your are stuck with 1024x768 when connecting a PC to this display? Or can you force a 1360/1366/1368 x 768 resolution?

It has 1024x768 pixels, so it cannot display any higher resolution. You can probably set whatever res you want on the computer and the tv will scale it, but it can't just 'acquire' any more pixels.

from the specs at amazon:
"Native Resolution (Number of Pixels): 786,432 (1,366 x 768)"

Those specs are wrong, the panasonic and samsung ~$600 42 inch plasmas are 1024x768.
