I read up on 24 Hour Fitness on Epinions and knew going into the place that the salespeople are slick. As such, I was keen to the fact that you are supposed to haggle until you get a rate you like.
My strategy:
First off, never give them a phone number you will answer. I have one of those free voicemail #s so I won't get the sales calls.
I got the tour and he sat me down to talk rates.
I told the salesman that I was currently in a club and was considering switching. He gave me a price: ~$850 flat for full World membership for 3 years, $8/month after that.
He asked if that was OK. No, I told him it was more expensive than I currenlty pay (a lie, and my current club is kinda stinky).
So he shuffled some papers and offered $766 for 3 years, $8/month after.
I said that was better, and that I had to do 2 things: get the quote in writing "to show my employer, who would subsidize" (i.e. make sure he doesn't back out) and then figure out how to cancel my existing club.
He tried to then give me some BS about my employer needing to pay for the reg fees for 250 ppl at once, and I told him to shove it. I told him the employer will only pay at the individual rate. He took the hint.
My plan is to say that my employer will not pay that much and that I need a better rate.
So my question to you: have you joined 24HF and what rates have you negotiated? Let's see how low they can go!
