drove an hour to Austin, they had one for $50, and one left, but guess what, they couldnt find it , right , whatever!! Anyhow, went to another one in Austin after that and they had 3 left, good thing my father knew tha manager there or else they wouldn't be able to find them either. bought 2 fro 56.91 and one (open box) for $49. Btw, did you know that the managers there make over $100 an hour. I don't believe her but whatever.
Thanks for the great deal....time to say good bye to my 4x smart and friendly coaster maker.

Damn you, DaviDaVinci! :disgust: Was that one off of 360 and 183? You bought the last 3?! I talked to a lady at the round rock store today, and she said someone was by there earlier. They had some for $99, but she wouldn't give them to me for $56. She then told me that the 360/183 store had 5 of them for $56 earlier that morning.

I wasn't paying attention, so I don't know what's going on; Nightman mentioned something about needing two receipts that are similar? Anyway, he emailed this to me and asked me to leave it here.

Both stores near me in NJ, one in Freehold and one in East Brunswick, have declared they no longer sell it, they will not get any, they do not have any, and there are none. They're not terribly helpful.

What would really be good is a Sam's shelf tag (one of those you take out of the sleeve to take up front to get the item) for use at other Sam's or to PM at Staples. Anyone?

Just drove about 30 minutes out to the west bank, picked up their last drive for $50.91, sealed in box. It is a Lite-On drive.

Guys, I have lurked in here for like 3 months (looking for a decent deal on a nice CD-RW) and decided to take a drive out to my local SAM'S here in Geneva IL. since that Pacific Digital looked like a good bet.

I get there and look on the shelf where the displays are and of course no pac digital, just some pine drive for $99. I went to the front desk to inquire as to status and the line was long, so I figured what the heck - there is their cage area where they keep drives and digicams locked up and what do my eyes behold?? One lone Lite-on! Well I waited my turn, picked the service rep I thought most likely to be flexible and so I explain the situation to her, and showed her the reciept that was scanned from the guy with the rutgers domain (thanks to whoever you are) and she honored the price no problem.

I highly reccomend this drive, the software bundle blows chunks, but who cares I have Nero and Roxio.

congrats! especially since you had GOOD sense to go and not CALL like others have done! i can't stand lazy people! give you props for walking around and sizing up the situation also (that's how i got mine--one clerk was showing me the computer and saying they didn't have any in the area--another clerk i asked a few minutes later went and just pulled them out of the case! imagine if i had called)...

How does this drive compare to the TDK or the Plextor drives?
I have never really trusted lite on...but I am wanting to ditch my SCSI Plextor 8/20 and 40max CDROM for an IDE burner...

If you go to Circuit City and get the Pacific Digital there I am quite certain it's a Mitsumi (not quite as nice as the Lite-On IMHO. They also want $149 for that drive unless you can swing a PM. They also have a $40 rebate on the drive. I figured I can save almost $100 and not have to hassle with a rebate that takes weeks to get.

Good luck in whatever path you decide to venture down.

and OD will only do a PM with "local retailers" which blows my hairy ass
however...
i did find at www.peachpc.com on pricewatch that they have the Lite-On drive for 73 dollars

so...it could be worse

all this crying over lite-on, i guess i will edit, but i sho don't regret it!
i bought three of them this week (plus have a lite-on cdrom in my work dell), they ain't all that...

The one in Kenner didn't have any, and I picked up the last one in Harvey (although the computers show there is one more, but they couldn't find it) Not sure about New Orleans East.
