I am not sure anymore but when the Iomega 12x came out they were rebadged Plextors and there is a patch available to change the firmware and turn it into a fullblown Plextor. A page describing all of the details can be had here

Now that I look at the page the iomega/plextor was 12x10x32 this one seems to be 4x rewrite
