I wish these units didn't have a monthly subscription. Are there any out there that do not require a subscription?

Man you must do nothing but watch TV all day if you need 235 hours of recording time on the TV unit...

i really can't recomend ANYONE get a replaytv personally..... once you've seen the true exact digital stream recordings that a directivo makes and at roughly an hour per gig at what is not just "best" quality but original transmision quality..... it cant be beat...
basically add 2 120gig 100 dollar maxtors to a directivo and you get around 235 hours of pure original quality tv
unless yer in a condo or something that wont let you put up a dish..... i cant see any reason to stick with recording crap*y cable or off air for posterity or even time shifting......

I didn't think there was a monthly subscription for the Replay TV models
IE: making this very hot, considering a lifetime sub from Tivo (which I own but is currently useless due to my dead tivo) is $250
No, they've gone to the same subscription fees as TiVo. I believe this change occurred when they were acquired by SonicBlue and released the 4xxx line of ReplayTVs.Originally posted by: MrBond

I've gone ahead and ordered this, and the tracking info says I'll receive on the 18th. I'll report back if it's all good then.
