From all the review I read, the rio 500 is a killer mp3 player but the Koss headphone that comes with it is crap, not base response. Best investing in a high quality headphone.

BTW, I purchased 3 of those combos at my local Compusa. Selling the burners but keeping the TrioRio hehe, one for my dad and one for brother.

There are apparently two types of hp 91xx series drives. One type by Sony and one by LG. The former works with clonecd and the latter not. I found this info on the elaboratebytes forums. This might also be the reason why some drives, non-sony, cannot be flashed to 10x write.

Just got it today, with grey (YES!!! WTH were they thinking with purple?!?!?) Rio 500. Now I don't know what to do. Should I keep the RIO, or sell in on eGay and get Rio Volt instead (CD MP3 player)?

The only reason I'm keeping this Rio b/c it's very compact and light weight. Cd/Mp3 players are bulky.

hey guys, just cloned a cd using cdclone with this HP drive so it's a go w/ the cdclone. took a long time though - waited for an hour, got pissed, went to class (oh no), came home and it was (finally **) done.

It's worth it to give the rebate a shot. The bundle box includes retail boxes for both the Rio and the HP drive.

Hey Guys, Just a note,

There is a new firmware upgrade for the RIO 500 that ads a ton of new features and does fix the one problem all testers had with the rio, the volume on the Rio 500 in older firmware vs was weak as Hell, Now it can be cranked quite loud for you joggers and bikers! I love my little Rio. The only other problem you will have is the original vs 2 software that came with them won't install in Win2k. You have to get the new software, Because of that you don't get the free unlimited recording ability to cut audio cd's. But that shouldn't be a problem for you guys since the software only cuts at 1x and I can cut audio at 8x on my plex with easy cd creator. Anyway if you get this deal verify you have the most current firmware to get the most out of that little machine. Oh yea, the new firmware upgrades the 500 so it will accept 64MB Smartmedia, that doubles the ram. Now you can get almost 1 3/4 albums at 192bit onto it.

A bit of advice to those still trying to order from the hp site. Some inside info about delivery dates (confirmed through several sources) had tipped me to order earlier today. Order went through even though technically it was not in stock. I even got an order confirmation. Unfortunately, when I called again checking the shipping of my order, I was informed that hp was not allowed to place orders when items were not in stock (even though mine did), and that my order would automatically be cancelled by the system. So...for those of you who think that you too, may have this inside information (unless you really get it), it doesn't work. Its dead, dead, absolutely dead.

I think I made my mind up. I'm going to get Rio Volt MP3 CD player for $169 from Amazon.com after selling Rio 500 on eGay. Especially because I have $130 in GC's for Amazon.com, so I'll only pay $40 for it
