I'm still wondering if i want this. Is the burner any good? I have a yamaha scsi 4x burner that works well but i need a burner for a pc i'm building my brother. I don't really need a mp3 player cause i have a pretty nice minidisc recorder. Decisions, decisions...

Does anyone know what goes into verifying these purchases? I.E. are they going to send the receipt back to CompUSA to verify that it was legit, or otherwise examine my order in the CompUSA system? I'll cut right to the chase: would it be possible to just forge a receipt? Obviously not easy if you buy B&M, but what do the receipts look like for online purchases? Anyone? In my experience with e-tailers like Buy.com, Amazon, etc. they are usually laser-printed on 8.5x11" sheets of paper and would be trivial to reproduce in Quark. If CompUSA is the same way & the Rio that's included really is retail...

I just bought this. It's 2 retail packages. I got the grey rio. This burner was supposed to be for my brother's machine i'm building him but i might just give him my yamaha 4x scsi and use this 8x instead.

I wasn't exactly looking for either of the products, was looking for higher speed CDRW though. I guess 8x will do and I only have to pay an extra $50 or so for a RIO500... great deal!!! *keeps on praying*

BTW I just got through to hp online and got the CSR to confirm that my order was a go.

He said I got one of the very last ones they had. He didn't sound too happy about it either.

Anyone who thinks this isn't a great deal is nuts.. Those of you trying to figure out ways to fraudently get the rebate? Glad you are posting here for the world to see what class of ppl you are. :disgust:

I don't think guys who are getting a Rio at BB or wherever and scanning the receipt and returing it are such bad guys. They are getting retail package with UPC and Diamond is giving out $50 rebate on retail packages with UPC. Just because they have to get receipt elsewhere due to HP's inability of including the description on a receipt does not make them so bad. MHO.

I just ordered one from CompUSA.com. Their description says "Digital Music Duo, 8X4X32 Internal EIDE CD-RW Drive Plus Rio MP3 Player". Will that work for the rebate since the receipt says Rio MP3 Player? Does anyone know a number I can call to ask? The rebate only inlcudes a number to ask where the rebates are if they are late. Thanks.

Also... I just got an e-mail from CompUSA saying there was a problem with the credit card I used and I have to call them by Tuesday. Has this happened to anyone else? What is this about? Thanks.

Since this deal is obviously &quot;another offer&quot; that makes it illegal right off the bat. Add into that the ways in which these &quot;receipts&quot; are going to be obtained (forgery, deception etc.) and it does not take a rocket scientist to see how wrong it is.

I got my deal and am very happy with it.

Okay I bought this duo at my local B&amp;M compusa...very sweet deal.

The Rio 500 is very small and new software can be downloaded here...

The Rio has support for win98/winNT/win2k (I'm using win2k). The software has a really nice interface. Songs can be converted to 128kbps on the fly to fit more songs on the Rio. The transfer is pretty fast too, a 4 meg song takes a few seconds to transfer if it doesn't need to be converted.

Plus the HP 9100 series drives are hackable to 10x4x32x!!!

I honesty have not tried this hack yet because I have a plextor installed, but if I do attempt it I'll let everyone know how it goes.

whoa..... if that hp is hackable to 10x4x32x, this is A REALLY good deal! i wonder if i'm allowed to sell hacked cdrws on e-bay... it should fetch a good 130 if it's at 10x, and maybe 110 or 100 at 8x...
