I know that you can get the riovolt SP90 for 59$ after 20$ mail in rebate from amazon right now with free shipping, but the riovolt sp100 comes with the wired remote (19.99$ + shipping and it's out of stock at sonicblue's website) and there's a special rebate right now along with it... buy a riovolt sp100 and get the car adapter for 5.95$ (just pay for shipping). The car adapter is also 19.99$ + shipping at sonicblue. So in other words you get...

I have the SP100. I've had it since new and the upgradeable firmware was one of the major selling points in my eyes.

I need the card adapter, so I think I'm going to buy another one to get a receipt and then send in the original UPC from my player. I think that's cheap that they are charging for the so-called shipping and handling though..

Edit.. Can someone confirm that this is a Rio promotion and not just J&R?

I don't know if you can pricematch with AMEX Blue since i'm only 16 and dont' have an AMEX Blue, but if you can get amazon to pricematch j&r's price of 89$ you can get the riovolt sp100 + some stuff to put you over 100$ and use the free shipping/20$ off to bring your total to around 80$ shipped, then add 5.95$ for the car adapter for a total saving of about 15$.

The ad refers to the backlit LCD, which by default makes this the SP100. The SP90 lacks the backlight.

J&R says the SP90 also has a backlit light which is wrong, but then again they send this rebate with the product and the rebate only applies to the SP100. There's a 20$ rebate floating out there which applies only to the SP90. The rebate for the car adapter is here

edit: I think the reason it doesn't specifically say the SP100 is because the SP100 was the only mp3/cd riovolt for awhile until the SP90 and SP250 came out at the same time. I've seen this player just called the RioVolt MP3/CD player at other places so I don't think there's any mistake about it

Alluding to the AMEX pricematch suggested above...if you buy the SP100 from Amazon with AMEX blue and do the AMEX pricematch to J & R, you can end up with free shipping on the deal. On the other hand, you'll lose the 1% ebates (barely noticeable), and you won't get any real benefit out of the $20 off Amazon coupon since AMEX will factor that into their math. (I'm assuming here if you buy more than one item from Amazon and apply the $20 off coupon, AMEX will assign the $20 off to whatever you're trying to pricematch, not the other stuff on the order).

Has anyone tried this little wireless connection for MP3 players instead of going through the cassette player in your car? I can't find the description page again, but it says that you tune your FM radio to one of several stations your MP3 player will play through your car radio wirelessly.

fm transmitters are okay at best.

going wire is always better than going wireless, if there is not signal conversion.
meaning... unless you take your analog signal and convert it to digital before sending it over via fm frequencies... and then on the receiving end... convert again back into analog.

the only time when i'd say fm transmitters are useful is when you have a cd indash unit without a tape deck. and you're trying to play a tape via walkman via fm radio on the cd player.

Here's what I did:

Rio SP90 for $99 - $20 rebate - $20 coupon - $20 AmEx Blue PM = $40...
Koss Car Pack (Includes 12V -> 4.5 V adapter and Cassette Adapter) - $20

Total: $60...

IMHO, the SP90 is still a better deal.... I'm sure you can hack the remote link, and I already have one of those multi-purpose adapters AND about 12 rechargable batteries (thanks to ATHD)....
