Not a good monitor. I bought one from Staples with PM and coupon for $329 shipped and I returned it after a few days. Even at the brightest setting, the colors look drab. The case design is nice with the control panel that slides out and all, but the image leaves much to be desired. I was planning to sell off my Radius 17" and keep the 900NF until I saw them side by side. Then I returned the 900NF and kept my 17". Trinitron tubes are definitely brighter and sharper...

kimdani1, What's the SKU for the the 900NF at staples? The only one I see is the 950P, maybe that's what you're talking about.

Doubt you had a 900NF kimdani1. The 900NF has got to be one of the best 19" monitors out there, and uses the Diamondtron NF tube, which is the equivalent, if not better, than the Trinitons.

WTF are you talking about?. . maybe you got a messed up piece, or maybe you got a different model monitor. . .but the 900nf is quite possibly one of the BEST 19 inch monitors you can buy . . .period.

its just good as hell. . .sales for the monitor were up so high just a month or 2 ago that it took abfout 4 weeks to get one shipped to the retailer from the manufacturer . . . .

maybe you should get your shi+ straight before you come in here talking smack about a monitor or, even worse, its CRT in general . . .

i have one myself, and it is hott . . .the default res is 1600 x 1200 @85hz . . .you dont see numbers that high very much in the class of monitor. . .

See for Yourself

Geez, don't you think I know a 900NF when I order one and it's sitting on my desk? I bought the damn thing because it had nice specs and I found what I thought was an awesome deal on it. If you sat down with my Radius 17" Trinitron tube and compared the two, you would notice the huge difference in quality. For $329, it was a good deal since the going price at the time was close to $400. I don't know if Staples still carries it, but they did. I did a pricematch with I think it was that Citibank website and then applied a coupon. There were no rebates involved at the time.

The geometry on the monitor was nicer by far than the crappy KDS VS-190 (i think) that I had before it, but the screen brightness and sharpness of text/images was far below my expectations. Sure, go ahead and attack me about how this is "da bomb" monitor and all that, but my friends who saw the two side my side had to agree that my 2 year old monitor was far better in terms of image quality.

Those of you who have the 900NF and are happy with it, good for you. Those who already have a nice Trinitron monitor, you're in for a disappointment if your old monitor is anywhere near as nice as mine.

Pnklytnyng:

Who gives a crap about specs if the image isn't up to par? Man, any company can site specs, but when it comes down to it, it's the image quality that makes or breaks a monitor. As for those awesome specs you quote, big friggin deal! My 17" Radius with Trinitron tube does 1600 X 1200 @75. Why don't you get the two and sit them side by side before you start spouting off? People who only own one monitor and think it's the best thing out there without doing a critical comparison are biased.

From a scientific point of view, no experiment is really valid without a control group. Since you don't have the two monitors I had, shut your mouth until you've had the chance to see them and know what I'm talking about.

And for any who have doubts that it was the 900NF that I had, I can read quite well thank you. I also read all the reviews and chose the 900NF because it was supposedly better than the 950P.

Wow.. my 17" monitor does 1600x1200@76Hz.

And I have compared my monitor with a 900NF, a 1200NF, and a few Sony's and always liked the Samsung, cause first of all, it's a bit cheaper, and second, it had great color and crisp text. You probably just got a bad 900NF. It happens every once in a while. Don't just point that the 900NF sucks because you had bad experience with one.

1600x1200 on a 17" monitor? Ouch

However, quite impressive that it supports a refresh of 76 for such a high rez (for a 17&quot.

Heh... 1600 X 1200 @75 on a 17" is quite a sight to behold. I ran it at that res for a while until I thought I was going blind from trying to read what was on the screen. It's just nice to know that it can...

Perhaps the 900NF that I received was simply defective. That Compaq 19" that Mercata was closing out was also pretty poor in terms of image quality, but I don't think that was out of the ordinary for it.

kimdani1, I think the 900NF IS a diamontron.

I just bought a Micron 900MX from BestBuy B&M for $379, it's flat, does 1600x1200 @85Hz. Don't know if it's a "hot" deal tho.

Kidman,

Do you like the Micron so far?

I almost got one tonight. Picked it up and brought it to the register, but then decided to take it back when I found out the warranty was only 1 year and I figured I'd think about it one more day.

I've had my 900nf for about a year now. Best damn monitor i've seen in its price range... trinitron is overhyped and like all sony gear, over priced.

Yeah, I got a 900NF like right after they came out, so I've had it for at least 6 months or so, maybe close to a year, my memory is bad. Anyway, I have nothing but great things to say about it, from the case design, to the picture quality, etc. This price sounds like a great deal on a great monitor.

NordicNINE,

I like the micron 900mx for the most part, but it seems that at 1600x1200 @75Hz I can't get the pictures/text at the corners to be as crisp as in the middle-color convergence problem, I think. I never used trinitron before so I don't know if this is normal. I'm using ATI Rage Fury 32M AGP, and AIW Radeon, and there's a Hawkin's KVM between the vid cards and the monitor.

I've had a 900NF on my second PC for more than 1 year now. It's defintely one of the best 19" Flat monitor. Colors are bright and the text is super sharp. It'll do 1600x1200 @ 85HZ nicely.

I've had my 900nf for about 6 months now, and its beautiful. The other 4 monitors in my house have been side to side to it at various times, and just cannot compete. Its depressing when I look at the 15" non-flat screen from dell I used until I bought this for like 2 years.

Hey kimdani,

You obviously did NOT have a 900NF monitor. Staples has never carried it. You are indeed mistaken. You perhaps had the 900DF or another samsung monitor. Also, for you others which have posted saying you have had this monitor for a year? come'on, it has not been out that long and it was not readily available in the channel till approx 8 months ago now. Comdex was great with the displays, and the Samsung line of ____NF monitors blows the others away.

OK, I'll bite. I guess your probably looking at getting more posts on your name than talking the truth....

does the 900nf have the two horizontal lines very much like trinitrons?

The lines are so faint and I never notice them unless I'm working on a white document (MS Word). Otherwise they are barely visible, unless you are a perfectionist and CONCENTRATE on the lines then you will barely notice them. I tend to notice the lower line more than the upper line though. This is a super hot deal on a great monitor.
