This is a great deal. Even better than the best buy deal. Amazon just added the $200 rebate because last week it was only a $100. I almost went with the amazon deal last week but not only was I saving more from best buy but I didn't have to wait.

Remember this when doing this deal. You have to wait a week or two for them to deliver the phone. Then you have to wait a month for your first bill to send in for the rebate. If you can wait then this is a great deal.

Great find, but my quesiton is if it is good for Sprint PCS customers? Reading the small print I would want to say yes but am still very worried about getting burned on these rebate forms. Any advise?

it says a copy of your first months bill with activation - does activaction mean a new account? i agree $200 is a lot of money to get burner on so I think I'll pass for now.

I called amazon about the 1-2 week delivery since the rebate requires activation before July 2, 2002. They told me that the would unlikely be able to deliver the phone to me prior to the rebate. But that I could return it for a full refund if I did recieve it prior to July 2 ... bummer !!!

You can also check on other Amazon rebates .... some phones are -$70 !!!! That's two months of service for free. I'm temped ...

Just ordered:

Shipping estimate: July 1 - July 8
Delivery estimate: July 4 - July 17 (Used super saver free)

The 5150 apparently is ordered directly from the factory. Duh!!

Activation is through SprintPCS. You have to called them when you get the phone. SprintPCS then gives the credit to Amazon for the sale. It is a one year agreement. But you don't get charged for the activation until you call SprintPCS.

Yup. If you look at the list of phones on the Amazon, about half of them have delivery time of 1-2 weeks. Some of them have a delivery time of 24 hours.

If they have a delivery time of 1-2 weeks call them up (the phone specialists) and ask them of the probablility of shipment prior to July 2. There is nothing they can do to extend the rebate. In otherwords the people that got this phone while it was still in inventory made out big - when the inventory ran out there is no chance to get the rebate ...

SprintPCS Rebate: Rebate requires sale slip dated prior to 6/30/02 -->$70.00

Amazon Rebate: I called them TWICE (cell phone specialist - (866)232-9681) . BOTH told me that there is NO WAY TO GET THE REBATE WITHOUT activating the phone prior to 7/2/02. The sprintPCS phones are not activated by Amazon.

I just called Amazon wireless, and they suggested sending an email to wireless-orders@amazon.com for clarification about the activation deadline.

I received the form email back within minutes that said:
"Rest assured, if you have placed an order for a qualifying phone with
a service plan on or before July 2, 2002, your order will be eligible

after that date."

I'm placing my order at Amazon and returning the 5150 I bought yesterday at BestBuy (along with $45 in overpriced accessories!).

Thanks for this great deal. I got the same email as you guys so I'm really hoping they'll honor it. I'm a little worried about using sprint but I think I'll take the chance for one year. I just cancelled my deal at getconnected.com where I was getting the samsung a460. I think there are pros and cons to both phones. For example, a few people say the sound on the 5150 is low even when the volume is turned up. However, cnet review was pretty good. It has good battery life also. Not too many people I know have the 5150 while a few have the samsung. This and the fact that the 5150 is color helped make my decision. I'll use the free 3 months of wireless web and ringer download service to get some color pics and ringers then canel these two services.

Also, isn't this a fairly mediocre phone so far as audio goes? I mean, it's fine, but not great, from what I've read. But no question: a color LCD is too cool in a phone. :^)

(Don't mean at all to be thread-crapping--this is a GREAT deal, incredible even, so long as you know what you're getting. BMW display, Chevy sound.)

I could be wrong, but you cannot add this phone to an existing plan. You cannot be under contract with Sprint...
You must sign a new contract & change your phone number (existing customers) in order to get this deal.
Amazon is able to give the $200 discount only to those people who will activate this phone (through SprintPCS) and sign a 1 year contract. That is why the phone price is $299 unless you add a plan to your shopping cart, to make sure people get a plan.

Do not take my word for it, i am not 100% sure...

I've had this phone since January, and I must say that I love it. Pros: Batter life is real good. Phone feels nice to hold. Color LCD is awesome. Full of features. Best feature is the ability to upload pictures and midi files to the phone (SprintPCS Ringers and more service sucks). Cons - Audio can be low at times, but that is mainly due to the fact that phone has a smaller speaker than average (due to large lcd), so you have to put speaker right at your ear. But once you get use to that audio quality is good. People love it when I get a call and they hear the Simpson's theme music play, or when my girlfriend calls and they hear I love Lucy play, and when my family calls and they here the Munsters them music play... lol. This phone is great. If you want to get the most out of it, I suggest you purchase the wireless webkit for it. If anyone wants some of my custom midi's for the phone, let me know.
