HOT!!! SBC law suit

I live in Southern California and received a letter today about a settlement with SBC Yahoo dsl. They are giving back service credit for 1, 1.5, or 2 months free service. Did anyone else get this?

Got this as well... There's a catch though if I recall correctly. If you get the service credit, you have to sign up for another year of service.

The other option is to just have them cut you a check for 20 bucks. This way you don't have to sign up again for 1yr.

i got a letter today as well. if its true about the extra year contract, i'll be happy settling with the $20 check

Actually.... it was not just SBC that had slow down problems during this time. Still waiting for someone to hit Earthlink also. I had to use dial up during this whole time (1 1/2 months). I have Earthlink, and they f'd me around for weeks, until they finally admitted the problem was at their end. They credited me already though.

Ack, just looked over the claim form again. The 1 year service contract is only if you were a previous sbc customer and would like to sign up again. Otherwise if you're a current customer, you can get 1, 1.5, or 2 months free depending on how long you've been with SBC.

I had a really bad service for one and half months. Although they tried very hard (Even changed the cable pair all the way to CO) they could not fix the problem. I called them and they gave me credit for that period. You do not have to be part of the lawsuite to get money. I told them to read my records. I had made a lot of support calls.

is this just in socal? i've been with sbc for over a year now here in norcal and havent received a letter. I just renewed another year for 29.99/month too. whats the lawsuit about anyways? I've had no problems with speed, constant 1250/136 as measured w/ dslreports.com although i cant serve games on battle.net. i have no problems joining games but starting a game has too much lag and all other players get dropped.

I have been an Ameritech DSL customer for 4 years (now SBC). Once or twice a year they turn my service off for no reason and I have to endure hours and hours on the phone trying to find the single person who is willing to actually try to solve the problem. Is the suit only in CA? They owe me.

can anyone tell during what time So Cal SBC dsl service slowed down significantly? I had sbc dsl and experience significant slow downs and interrupted service around jan/feb 2003 and had a technician check out the problem. They could not find a problem on their end and then charged me 100 bucks for the visit basicly assuming that something was wrong on my end. I called in several times and talked to several managers but they would not drop the charge... Consequently I also disconnected my service because a rep told me that in my case (very bad service) I would be refunded the early termination fees. After 6 months of not getting a refund, I call in again to find out that I only had the right to dispute the early termination fee but would only win if SBC technicians declared that they cannot offer service to my area. Meaning if they can only offer speeds equallm to a 56k modem and connection would drop about every hout , that is still considered to be acceptable service and does not qualify me for a refund on the early termimantion. Alll this has now costed me 300 bucks (100 tech visit, 200 early termimation) ...
