All the boxes had similar serial numbers when I went today. The one I picked up only had a 1 year warranty. With tax, it's about $0.39/GB.

I got some Seagate rebates earlier this year. Am I eligible for this one? The rebate form doensn't say anything. BTW, the rebate came rather quickly.

Where does the rebate go? Is it going to be a hassle? Also, any way to find out which one's have the 5 year warranty without opening it up? Thanks!

FYI, posted by kehi in another Seagate thread:

"Quote from Seagate Site:

4. Does the 5-year warranty apply to internal Retail Kit purchased after the new warranty date, even if the printed box indicates only a 3-year warranty?
Yes, if purchased after July 26, 2004 the internal products will have the 5-year warranty. Packaging reflecting the new warranty will soon be on Retail shelves. If Retail customers have questions about the warranty on their internal Retail products, the can access their warranty information at www.seagate.com. "

it's 109-40 = 69 in LA, but 119-40 = 79 in SF ! WTF !?! on outpost.com it's 129-40=89 (free shipping) so only $10 more than the SF stores. the cost of gas + time to go to the store is probably almost $10, so it's almost not worth it at all.

I don't think it is accurate - I think it is the shipping date to retailers that Seagate goes by. I just bought a 160gb Seagate yesterday at BestBuy. The retail package says 1 yr warranty and when I punch the serial # in at Seagate.com it says it expires July 28, 2005.

Please let me know if anyone knows different because I may return this one to BestBuy if it is only a year.

Maybe Seagate hasn't updated their database to reflect all the drives that will have the 5yrs?

for some reason... when i was at fry's today, all i saw were a bunch of these RETURNED. so i decided to go with the brand new WD 49.99 120GB drive... which is still sitting in its plastic casing right now... god im so excited... what am i gonna do with 120 gb??? hmmmmmmmmm...

i'm sure someone else already pointed it out, but on my visit to fry's today I also noted:

ecs k7vta3 & barton(?) XP2800+ combo, for $109.99
xtasy 256mb 9600 graphics card, for $???
WD 120gb for $49.99

oh yea and then there were these d-link wanna-be wireless lan cards... made by AIRLINK. tricked me... I spent like 30 minutes looking for the d-link ones. anyways, if you're interested in airlink

pci or pcmcia 54mb b/g = $19.99

ecs k7vta3 !??!?! this is 266 MHz mobo from 2001, it would be a complete waste to use the athlon xp 2500+ in it. I mean the athlon can easily be overcolocked to 2.2 GHz on a 400 fsb. So unless you can find a poor soul to buy that p-o-s mobo from you, you're basically getting a xp 2800 for 109, which is actually a decent deal by itself, except that the xp 2800+ is not exactly the best value cpu in the athlon xp line to begin with.

did you actually bother to read the thread ?
you can buy it from outpost.com for $20 more, but hey you're probably saving $10 on the tax.

COol didn't even realize it.

I'm already running 320mb.
I think another 400gb would suffice.
