You will need a SATA PCI card or a new motherboard to use this. I dont think we will ever see an adapter that goes from SATA back to PATA.

I understand it well enough to know that unless you can show me a PATA drive that out performs the SATA WD Raptor that there IS a "performance increase for going with SATA in current hard drive technology." I guess you don't understand that you are comparing a 7,200 RPM vs 10,000 RPM hard drive. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with SATA vs. IDE. Please try to understand technology before posting.

Also, check your credit card bills, I'm not for certain, but there is about $140 in charges unaccounted for (online statement doesn't tell me where it was charged to for about 2 days after the charge), and since I have been doing finals week for the last 4 days, I haven't gone spending much of anything, although it is possible that I just don't remember spending that much money on anything.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, I contacted CDW and verified my purchase and all 2500 others were cancelled. It was a ONE item open box. So all we got was a credit authorization on our credit card, and it won't clear until tomorrow so we can't use our money

I love you people with nothing to do except be beligerent a-holes. Get a life why don't you? SATA does NOT offer any performance increase over PATA technology currently. Again you are talking about a hard drive 10K RPM HD that happens to come in a SATA interface. We are talking interface, NOT actual HD performance. Understand little man? Go ahead and continue on with your ignorant posting and useless bashing.
Have a Merry Christmas.

There's a reason that WD choose a SATA only interface with the Raptor. Although high performing, I doubt the Raptor would fare as good as it is now with a PATA interface.
Until you decide to reword or back pedal out of your initial post, you are fair game for useless bashing. I am well aware that today's SATA products are really PATA products with an extra SATA-to-PATA bridge chip but since you said "There is no performance increase for going with SATA in current hard drive technology" in comparison it to a "standard IDE ATA" I will refute it until you show me a "standard IDE ATA" in any RPM that out performs the SATA Raptor. UNTIL YOU DO THAT I CONSIDER SATA A CURRENT PERFORMANCE INCREASE. Understand big man?Originally posted by: FuzzyPalms
