My wife got me a nice kinetic watch a few years back. It was really nice, but it didn't work out because in order to function I had to do a good amount of walking (and arm-swinging) *every* day or it would run out of juice. It would have been great for an active person, but not for a lazy bastard like me.

exactly how much arm swinging is involved for a day? and i thought there was some feature on it that autmatically resyncs it.

I have one. usually if you wear it for one day (actually, half day), it should have enough milk for about 3 days. fyi.

i've found that it will keep going for about a week if you just leave it sitting on the shelf.

i've got the kinetic auto-relay version, which is the one that winds back to the right time if you do leave it sitting around for a while. the auto-relay feature basically stops the hands from moving when power gets low, keeps a trickle to keep time internally and winds it to the right time when you start moving it again (although it doesn't set the day if you've got a calendar on it).

it's a real nice watch.

I have a Citizen Eco-Drive Duo. It recharges via solar light or kinetic energy. So unless I had my arms bound in a dark cave, I will always know what time it is!

Dear lazy bastard,
Just put it on the right, instead of the left wrist, at least during the period of hightened activity for the wrist in question.

lol! Very nice deal. My dad's seiko kinetic watch that he gave me a couple years ago from 1980 just died and i'm looking for a new one. Only problem is my mom objects to me owning an expensive watch since I lost a 130$ G-Shock watch 3 months after I bought it... but that was 4 years ago when I didn't know what a motherboard was

My rolex only required you to barely move just the tiniest bit and it would start winding. Truly amazing. Now theres a big difference between a 6000 dollar watch and a 170 dollar one, but I can't imagine you have to swing like a monkey to get the thing going. Unless its just that inneficient.

i have a seiko kinetic which i wear every day and it stays at maximum charge (over a month according to manual) though i'm never active while wearing the watch, since it's a nice one.

i only wear seiko watch, although my boyfriend bought me a rolex.

reasons:
my first watch was an old seiko kinetic my grandpa had worn for 15 years, then passed on to me. never stopped working well for 6 years till i broke the bracelet (that is "when i didn't know what a motherboard was"). i did not want to replace it, so i put it into my oldie chest. and now i bet it is an antique!
i have had this new model of seiko kinetic for 4 years now, never had any problem, it only leaves me when i take a shower (since it is not water resistant). sort of like my baby.
i did a lot of research on watch before i decided on my particular model of seiko, during the process i was a little bit distracted by citizen's eco-drive, but i figured this way: you might hit places that have not much sunlight, but you would never stop moving BIGif you are unfortunately in coma or dead. (don't understand you "lazy bastard," i think yours might not be a geniune seiko.) i know high end seikos are also individually numbered.

for 169 it is a nice bargain if it is geniune, but i think this model is not that dressy, more for sporty guys or gals.

watch is a personal item, i think if we all put a personal feeling towards it, you will never loose it.

SEIKO ROCKS!

I don't know where most of you are getting the 1980's Seiko kinetic watches from. The true kinetic model came out in about 1994 to the US, and I think they were in Japan in 1993. Anyway, my dad bought me one back in 1994 it was like $100 (got it on sale) I am still wearing it right now. The original ones only held 72 hours of charge. you can be the laziest bastard and it will still keep charge. When you initially get it, swing it for 2 minutes and it should charge for 2 days. My observation so far is that some times it doesn't keep the charge the full 3 days. It uses capacitors to hold electric charge instead of batteries. I am not sure what the life exp. of the capacitors are. Make sure to get one that is water resistant. Overall the watch has been the best watch I have owned. Even the Daytona that I received from my uncle as a college graduation gift requires much more care, hence I don't wear it...plus it runs about $200 every 2 years in maintenance! So, hope this helps you all out.
