As it goes, it seems like the decision has been made to go into Iraq. Regardless of how you feel about it, the very least you can do is support the troops. These are the men and women who put their lives on the line for you and me.

In accordance with that, the military has the Operation Dear Abby program where you can send messages of support to the troops through email. I'm sure the troops will appreciate all the support they can get.

Let's not turn this into a flame war. Let's keep opinions about the war out of this and instead just support these brave individuals.

Operation Uplink

Until they come home, we'll bring them voices from home.

Operation Uplink is a unique program of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary. It keeps military personnel and hospitalized veterans in touch with their families and loved ones by providing them with free phone cards. Using contributions from supporters like you, Operation Uplink purchases phone cards and distributes them to servicemen and women who are separated from those they care about.

I agree, there are places to discuss whether the war is a good idea or bad but this thread should be kept strictly to replies about how we support the men and women who serve our country by putting their lives on the line...

Hot deal, I sent one and think everyone else with kind words of support should too!

Even though this isn't technically a hot deal, as the brother of an army serviceman I think anybody who would complain about it is a dirt bag.

I think that this is important enough to be in Hot Deals -- lets show 'em our support

NOTE: regardless of whether you support the war, these folks HAVE to be there. 120 degree nites, spiders as big as canalopes (that are aggressive and bite), and months away from family.

As a member of the Army National Guard you can kiss my ass goodbye. J/k

My unit has been activated to guard air force bases against counter-attacks from Iraq. I might join them soon but i just got out of basic training and they haven't told me i'd be deployed.

Dear Abby?

Please, is this a litmus test for patriotism? Will the contestant choose to email a service member via Bear Abby or not? Tune in....

I hope our troops are studying their missions, not reading friggin Dear Abby emails from strangers.

Peace out, yo.

Go police elsewhere, moron. If you aren't interested, then pass the thread over and abstain from posting.

Anyway, thanks for posting the link. A couple of friends of mine were talking about something like this during lunch. I think its a great way of showing support.

Ask Saddam if it's a hot deal when that 15,000 lbs daisy cutter hits his hideout.

I agree with Growltiger. Go police somewhere else. I consider having the best military EVER protecting my liberties a hot deal. I vote this becomes a sticky (like my vote actually means something...NOT)

I agree with those who have said supporting our troops is not necessarily an endorsement of this or any other war.
We have the freedom to disagree on politics because of the sacrifices our service personnel have made.

Here are some additional resource links copped from a site I'm building:

Having read many of these before, some are quit interesting; especially those from areas of the country that I haven't spent much time in.

What does kinda suck though are the handwritten ones around the holidays and such. Nothing like being around base on duty having to fill out thank you cards.

The only problem I have with this is deciding what Branch of Service to write to
I guess it will be the Army since I am a lil' bit familiar with them (2 semesters of ROTC )
This should be posted in all forums!
