WEP only work with 1 wireless device at a time. the bug in frimware speedstream donot know how to fix it. router continue drop signal and get it back every 5 minute if you have 2 wireless devices use the SS2624 at once. they may work with their own wireless devices since all of them use the same wireless software drivers utility and have same option. no wonder the price is half of other wireless router with PRINT SERVER port. if i disable WEP option. the router work ok. i still not sure about the heat problem that ton of people reported. i will try for another day before it go back to office depot.

US Robotics may be another looser in this regard.

I hate to say this, but don't blame the product just because you are too ignorant on how to use it or got a lemon on your hand. There are bound to be a lemon among any products coming out of the assembly line. If you know how to use MAC filtering (a feature that the Speedstream has) you wouldn't have to worry about neighbors getting onto your network. WEP works fine here, but I disable it because it is an utterlessly useless feature. Only good for hogging up bandwidth.

truggling with speedstream 2624 for almost a day. i finally figured it out how to make the damp thing work as advetised. it now works with WEP 128 enable and 3 workstations and one laptop can go at full speed without drop connection. SS2624 does not like me to use channel # 1. i duplicated the seting from USR8022 wireless router which also does not like channel # 1.

anyway i will keep the USR8022 wireless router with 2 ports and 1 printer server + 1 serial com port. it has few advantage over the SS2624: the speed and 2 antenas. speed test of USR8022 gave almost twise as fast as SS2624. it supports 256 WEP encryption and wireless speed can go up to 22Mbps. that is very handy when i want to transfer files on my network or share my DRU500A for backup data.

i think USR8022 is a much better deal than SS2624. Gateway has it for $82 and Frys has it for $99. both stores qualify for extra $20 rebate. it will bring price down to around $62.

I got the rebate on this router, and for the past week or so the router has performed as advertised with one exception.

Somehow my Inspiron 8000 laptop's built-in Intel 8255x based 10/100 NIC can't connect with the router via Cat5 at 100Mbps. The connection would be established only to be dropped randomly and constantly every couple of seconds. It sounds a lot like what some people here have experienced with the wireless side, but interestingly I have been able to use the wireless w/out any problem whatsoever. No dropped connection, good range, etc.

Anybody encountering a similar problem with a NIC not able to connect at 100Mbps with the 2624 router? I've thoroughly tested the multiple cables with my other systems, they all work. My desktops are able to connect at 100Mbps w/ no problem. I've extensively trouble-shooted the issue, including new WinXP pro installation, WinME, the entire works. Everything points to the conclusion that the router simply doesn't like my laptop.
