BUMP for a great deal!! I printed out my shopping cart with the $25 coupon applied and brought it to my local store and picked it up for $67 with the $30 rebate ready to be mailed in.

I might get another for my dad, heh.

I set mine up using a CC but then chose to pick up locally and it was fine.

Please post the link then.
I didn't find a free "WIRELESS, 4-port WIRED, w/ print server" broadband router on here yet.
I did find a free WIRED ONLY router at this thread, but that's not the same thing as a WIRELESS router.

Could I hook this up and use it solely as a print server in an existing network?

been looking for a print server, and this by far cheaper than any stand alone print server I've seen. Although I do have a d-link router that supposedly had a print server - won't work with my laser printer though, because it requires the printer to have an interpreter (or something like that) - has anyone had any problems like that with this device?

Yes you should be able to use this thing solely as a print server if you turn off it's DHCP aspects of the router and connect the router via a LAN PORT (not the WAN PORT) to your existing network; however, if you're not having luck getting your printer to work w/ your D-Link router, you'll probably have the same difficulties w/ the Siemens router.

With that said, which D-Link model do you have? I have the DI-704P and it works fine w/ my laser printer (using the native Windows XP printer drivers and D-Link's PRINTER PORT DRIVER). Although D-Link claims you can use Windows XP's "LPR" printing capabilities, when I tried it that way, Windows never sent complete printout information to the router. This resulted in corrupted printouts (the router's log would show "Printing started" followed by an entry "Printing cancelled" a short time later). Using the D-Link PRINT PORT DRIVER takes care of this problem.

If you're finding the router OOS in your area, here's a snipet from a post I placed in another thread:

You can search for items in other ZIP CODES (in a different state for example) to get OD's web-site to check inventory in other OD warehouses. I was only able to get this trick working on the NEW/PREVIEW OD web-site (link). The upper right hand corner of this site has a link for "Change Zip," making it easy for you to check other zip codes! Anyway, once you find the item in a particular ZIP CODE and have added it to your cart, when you go to check out:

1) DO NOT LOG IN USING YOUR EXISTING OD ACCOUNT. Fill in the ORDER FORM w/ your BILLING/SHIPPING information instead. (This is a feature of the NEW OD web-site -- no need to create an account before ordering)

2) Make sure you punch in your "$xx off $xx" COUPON CODE at the bottom of the order form (and then UPDATE the order so that it takes)

After the order's been placed, you have the option of creating a new user account using the info you just entered. It's your choice if you want to create such an account. Your existing username (on the OLD/CURRENT OD web-site) may not be used (as it already exists).

*EDIT* For shits 'n giggles, I checked ZIP CODE 90210. As of this writing, the router's in stock there.

There's a PARALLEL PORT in the back of the router. If your printer's a USB ONLY printer, the print server aspects of the router won't benefit you.

I have a DL-704P as well.....but it wouldn't work no matter what I tried.

The printer was sending back correct information about toner levels and such, and the dlink log said it was/had sent file to printer.

But the printer never printed - never even made an attempt. It's a Xerox XD100 laser printer / copier. I have no idea why it wouldn't work, but it didn't. Maybe I'll have better luck with this one.

Sounds like you may have what's known as a "Windows Printer" -- a printer whose printer driver is directly tied to the Windows OS and requires BI-DIRECTIONAL capabilities to/from the printer accross the parallel port. In other words, the computer needs to be able to receive signals FROM the print in order for things to function properly. This unfortunately is a limitation of PRINT SERVERS on Broadband routers. Thus, if you can't get your printer working through the D-Link DI-704P, you likely won't get it to work through the Siemens router either.

Note: Go into your PRINTER PROPERTIES settings for your printer and try turning off "Bi-Directional" printing. That may make your printer driver behave differently so that it'll perhaps be compatible w/ router based print servers

I would imagine the same way OD delivers items to people who order stuff at OfficeDepot.com but live nowhere near an OD: UPS/FedEx/Airborne.

oh, never thought of that; i've never seen OD delivered by some other way than those red trucks.

btw, i tried to get it at the local OD, stupid manager started spouting off about how the website is marketed to different groups, and that it would be "unethical" to match the price on the website.

Two things:
1) This is also a 4 PORT WIRED router too. You may be able to replace your existing router with this one.
2) If you want to keep your existing router and simply use this router as a WAP (Wireless Access Point) and/or a HUB w/ additional ports:
[*]Disable the router's DHCP SERVER
[*]Connect the Siemens Router using one of its 4 LAN PORTS (not its WAN port) to one of your existing router's LAN PORTS. This allows your existing router to act as the DHCP server to the Siemens router. The only downside to this method is you lose a LAN port on each router, but BFD.

So I will need to make a crossover cable, right? I mean to connect the 2 LAN ports.

Depends on each router. My D-Link DI-704P (which I currently have connected to a Netgear MR814 wireless router) has auto-switching/sensing ports. No crossover cable needed because of the D-Link's enhanced capabilities.
