HOT.... Sony 17" X73 for 406 newegg

Newegg has instant rebates on a whole bunch of sony LCDs. Just picked up the 17" for myself when it came back in stock. Cheapest I could fnid online was 460-480. It's 406+free shipping here. The white model for some reason costs 20 more.

Just research I dug up: This LCD does have a 16ms response time (12 ms rise, 4ms fall), and a higher contrast ratio compared to the NEC 1760NX and relatives. It has 2 analog inputs (with 1 analog cable), 1 DVI input (with DVI cable), all of which are supposedly easily switchable, speakers, and built-in power supply, so no need for power brick. It's also much cheaper than it's relatives, and IMHO has a nicer design.

Just a beware, Newegg also has the 15" and 19" models discounted. Those displays, the X53 and X93, are not 16ms panels, but rather 25ms ones. This is clearly the one to get.

I ordered this display, and am waiting for it to arrive sometime in the next week. I intend to use it for LANing and gaming.

I dunno if Newegg is an authorized NEC reseller or not, but you could possibly make this deal hotter by PM'ing to Staples. $489 for the 18" model from $550 at staples. Staples has a rebate of $60 right now. 1" more for nearly the same price.

Or you could PM the 19-inch $609 from Newegg to Staples. Staples has a $150 rebate on that right now...

Of course it would be extreme YMMV. Just my 2 cents.

An update: Newegg has apparently reduced the instant rebate on this panel from $100 to $50, for both the white and black.

I just got my panel today--I'm liking it so far! I haven't noticed any ghosting when testing with Halo or Serious Sam 2, and the color seems a lot better than my friend's 16ms panels (not that I was very quantitative when comparing).

The height adjustment is interesting... It certainly is easy, but sort of gets in the way when trying to transport (which is why I bought the thing).

i bought the monitor when it was 406.00, its pretty good....

well....sony had introduced a newer style, so i guess thats why it is on sale, but no by mean this minitor is obsolete

This LCd is without a doubt the most beautiful monitor I have ever seen. The picture is just incredible. Still have the normal problems you have with all lcds as far as pixelation (CRTs are better for viewing images from a digital camera) and it takes forever to find the right combination of settings , but it's just incredible compared to my KDS rad5.

Only 2 things I can't figure out. I can't get my GF3 to default post with the DVI and I think it's causing problems with the display detectign a DVI signal. Also, with a GF3 and the Sony inf, it only does 1280X1024 at 60hz ... is that correct ? Makes no sense they would make an LCD that only does 60hz at native resolution. Has anyone else seen this or is this my GF3?

but 60hz doesn't really matter with LCD
