These drives should feature "Power-Burn" technology which is a form of burn-proof or buffer-underrun technology. Not a bad price. However, if you're buying 3 or more from one location, then there should be some form of $10 off $50 coupon which could save you a little more money. I think these burners are fine if you just want to create a few CDs here and there.
However, the "big daddy" deal was a few weeks back when we were getting the 48/24/48 Lite-Ons for $39.99. Not only were the drives slightly faster, but they supported quite a nice laundry list of features. But, I will re-iterate, it all depends on what you need to do with your cd writer - and your time. The Sony 24x drives might be more than adequate for a lot of people. And with the Holidays coming up, they might make some nice gifts for friends and family members that have a PC, but not a CD writer.
