EV Sonic XJR - $14.99!!! MSRP $99.99

I went down to CompUSA to check if they had any more in stock. Couldn't find any and a very nice sales clerk looked for me. He asked if I was inquiring about the Xs2.1 which had a $99.99 price and I said yes. He pointed out the Sonic XJRs. I told him I wasn't interested and had him check in another store for the XS2.1. I casually asked how much the XJRs were and he said $14.99! I casually told him I'd take 2.

BTW, while we were bringing them up to ring them up, another sales clerk yells out that they weren't $40. My sales clerk said "I know, they're $14.99!". Don't know if the other sales clerk heard him. My sales clerk said he was going to pick up the last XJR. The girl who rang me up also said, "great price". Funny how the consumer now knows more about the sales than the sales clerk. Thank you Anandtech!!!

Anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area have an extra speaker set to spare? PM me. I bought the smaller version (Sonic XJR) and would be willing to trade plus cash. Or I'll just buy your extra speaker set outright.

I picked up a pair of the EV SonicXJR speakers for $14.99. I was also able to use the 25% off coupon so it drop the price down to like $11.25. I got them at the Hurst, TX store and there were 2 left. Just set them up and I am able to compare them to my Logitech z-340s. I found the z-340 a little bit boomy and a bit reserved on the high end. The XJR sound a lot different to me. The bass isn't boomy (the bass is all the way up on the dial) but just barely noticable. I will definately have to play around with the sub placement. The satellite speakers are aggressive on the high end as compared to the z-340s but the stereo imaging isn't as good. Again, they sound a lot different than the z-340s but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. They DO have a higher volume level before destortion than the z-340s. One small note: It seemed to be missing a "green" audio cable. No big deal since it some with two other misc. cables.

wow the ev sonic jrs suck brutaly my altec lansings kick their ass. First of all there is a humming noise in the background, second of all they are not as loud or provide as much as you would expect. Finally, the right speaker is louder than the left for some odd reason... acs 340's which are going for 1$ on ebay hahaha

Maybe im just not lucky ill go back and exchange it when i go to pickup my telex 2.1s on friday heh

Well I got the EV Sonic XJR as well. It does not seem very special at all. But the Treble is pretty good. The subwoofer is not very strong. I don't know how's the 2.1 is since I don't have one. But I think my Altec Lansing is better.
So to say, my jaw did not drop like in the reviews for the 2.1, the other set.

For those who are interested, I bought the EV Sonic XJR at round 11AM and there were two more left on the shelf. This is the Anaheim, CA Store, right off on Euclid on either freeway 91 or Freeway 5.

Can anyone compare the xjr to the xs? I bought the xjr but would love to purchase the xs2.1 (PM if you have an extra set to sell locally in San Francisco Bay Area). Hasn't gotten stellar comments from this forum so far.

So is everyone getting the EV Sonic XJR's for $14.99? Is it ringing up at the register for this price?

missed out on sonicXS...so got the last sonicXJR instead....

how are these retailed at $99??? they truly suck in comparison to other speakers at the price range. anyways, maybe the opened box i got was defective. but i can sorta understand why someone would return it. even my dad urged me to invest the $11 on something else.

the treble is a little strong, esp. when paired with the extremely weak bass...need to have the bass knob on full AND the soundcard bass setting close to full too. i am really disappointed with the sub on some songs, it sounds nonexistent. dont even try to listen to rap or hiphop without twiddling with the bass settings first.

these really suck when compared to my cambridge digital 2.1 i got for $70 three or so years ago. but they cream my $14 labtec speakers.

for $11~15 dollars, they are hot. esp if you're like me and the storm in md a couple of days ago killed your speakers. and you just need some back up speakers while waiting for a hot deal to come by.

and what's with the missing speaker cables?

how would you setup a 4.2 setup with two sets of XJR's? The bass is horrible, and either one of my channels is broken but on both sub's the right/left outputs are really different unless you punch the satellites a couple of times.

Anyone interested in trading an XS for an XJR + $$$? I know people have mentioned they like the smaller footprint. I'd also be interested in purchasing the XS for $$$. PM me if you live in the san francisco/bay area.
