it is very heavy, the best indication of a quality supply.
So if I bought a crappy $10 PS and put a whole bunch of lead in it and it weighed more than your new TT 420W, you'd think it's higher quality?

IMHO, this is a much better deal, and I'll tell you why:

It is 350W instead of 420W but Fortron is one of the best most reliable power supply companies.
While other companies exaggerate the W on their PSU's, Fortron labels theirs at 70% output.
So the 350W Fortron is "rated to peak" at 440W but has been tested even higher...
That's why I think it's better than 420W Thermaltake power supply which in general are not as good as Fortron.

Heh, heh, there is a review roight here on Anandtech for the Fortron's.Just go to the front page. I have a 300w which was tested by Tom's and considered to be way underspecced. They got it up to 380w I believe before it blew. Of course, I am replacing it with this because it is loud, probably because I am using it fairly fully, 3 hd's, 5 fans,KT7 512mb, 2 opticals. So the psu fan is running high. The review here is well written and it points out which psu' will work better for which type processor, P4 or Xp

It feels like a lead brick and is quieter than my case fans. With a "3400+" @ 1.9V, TI4200, WD1200JB, and 80GB D740X, voltage rails (measured with multimeter, not MB) stay within 5%.
PFC has less to do with you and more to do with the power grid. If you operate a commercial facility with hundreds of poor-PFC power supplies, then your power company may charge you extra. It's probably not worth spending money for otherwise.

Well, I read about a lot of experiences re different models here over the years:Originally posted by: Johnbear007: Why "in general" do you think they are better? do you have links to dozens of reviews conducted on many different models over the period of years that we can use to establish this?
You're right about the noise. Antec is one of the best and of course among the quietest but it may come to "how much is quiet worth" for some:Originally posted by: Johnbear007: No one has yet given a good asnwer as to how this copares to an ANTEC Truepower,or Smart power.
I would be interested in knowing how they stack up

Antec deal is difficult to find. If someone were to post it, we would head straight for it without discussing any of this.
Antec is better but it comes at a price.
