Well - our Series 1 Tivos have a limited amount of ram - 16 or 32mb - I can't really recall. But unlike our current comp setups - they don't have ram slots to add in additional ram - it's all soldered onto the board. Before the CacheCards people would have to solder on an additional bit of ram which is extremely difficult and could only be done by people proficient w/ soldering irons. The CacheCard just plugs into the IDE cable and is a PCB w/ a slot to insert a stick of PC133.
What is the point of have one?
Well - the menu loads / program guide data will be immensely improved. All that sluggishness will be in the past. And if you have old clunker PCs lying around it won't be hard to find a stick of PC133. Cost wise - it's $90 at 9thtee which is ridiculous. I would estimate it to be had just as cheaply as this TurboNet.
