A criminal? Those are strong words. Did the creator have a patent on his design? A copyright on his code? If the anser is no, then you are way off base....

Here's your answer. The software that makes this card run, and which this guy offers for download, came from this page:

http://www.silicondust.com/agreetou_download.html

See the copyright notice? It says "© Copyright Silicondust Engineering Ltd". Good enough?

BTW, the CD image contains code copyrighted by many others, which I'm sure the xtremetivo guy didn't contact and ask permission to use (which Nick did).

I've had enough of this sh*t, and said what I had to say. Bye.

No need to get all pissy, I'm not breaking any copyrights. Many places offer these drivers for download, but I don't wanted you to cry about this I removed them from the site just for you. And add www.tivoStuff.com to download the driver from.

Maybe this "copyright" discussion can be moved to off topic (or somewhere else) since it is does not apply to the actual hot deal. If it is actually illegal then it is Nick's job (or his lawyers) to take it up with XtremeTivo (or their lawyers).

Actually all of those are legal although you do lose your tivo warranty and will not have any Tivo support regarding this.

xtremetivo,

screw those stupid asses.

they are probably from 9th tee and mad because you are smart enough to price it at a level we will buy at, and they are stupid enough and bitchy enough to whine about it.

Just patent that crap and you'll be protected, Nick. That's what patents and copyrights are for.

9th tee overcharges and gets mad when there is actually competition.

Oh man, I'm being haunted. Someone make it stop! I ordered a Turbonet card and now I see dead people!

To answer someone's previous question, you can leave your program update as a dialup and still do extraction, AFAIK. I haven't done it, but I'm sure you can run TivoWeb and tyStudio and still leave TiVo calling in every night over the phone line.

Xtremetivo,

Thanks you for finally bringing the price down so everyone can afford it. I have been looking at those 9thtee turbonet adapters for a long time. I could not justify to myself buying a $70 ethernet adapter. Don't worry too much about what these guys say to you. If they want to buy an official turbonet adapter let them go to 9thtee. As for those who think this is wrong, how about the guys that are selling 2nd hard drives for tivo's? Isn't that just as bad?

can i install the turbonet card, leave my drives in, and use the serial cable bash prompt to download/install the s/w?

or is the s/w that you install ftp server and etc? now that i think of it, i guess it would be kinda wierd if the tivo already had an ftp server or something like that on it and running.

i guess i'll be taking out my drives and getting all into it... this isnt going to be a problem for my blessed drive two right?

I haven't gotten my card yet so i haven't had a chance to experiment yet - but I would venture to guess that you could probably bash your way into it but that the send would take quite a while...

Same here. Would be noce to speed the menu up, and find a use of the PC133 sticks that I have lying around.

Criminal is quite a strong and specific word. Are you familiar with the terms libel and defamation?

Libel is an action for causing hurt or damage to someones reputation. Just like assault is an action for physical harm or damage.

There are two forms of the Libelous action. If the action is in writing, it is called "defamation". If the action is spoken, then it is "slander". But it is all "libel".

Just thought it might be useful information.

I'm starting to worry that something went wrong with my order. We're coming up on 36 hours, and I haven't received any email confirmation of the order. As I mentioned in my original post, I got an error when it tried to "register" my order with the XtremeTivo website. Luckily I've got a printout and Order ID# to refer to at least. And since I used a CC, I can always dispute the charge if absolutely necessary. But I'd rather have my cards.

Have you E-mailed to check on the order?

AFAIK, no. If you don't twiddle with the dialing prefix, your TiVo should still try to establish a PPP connection through its modem. Setting it to ,#401 (IIRC) tells it to not do that; it'll then grab its data over whatever other type of connection is already established (Ethernet, if you install one of these cards).

I put in an order Monday afternoon. I got email about an hour ago that said it's shipped...w00t! I already have a TivoNet, but the 2-3x speed increase others have reported with TurboNet should be nice. (If only
Janeway's motherboard hadn't crapped out...but that should be resolved soon enough.)

I ordered on page 1 and just got my TurboNet card today. Quick I'd say fast, as fast as USPS can ship it (Priority). Xtreme, wassup with all the paper as packing filler? Looks like brand new paper too! You should use recycled stuff

As for software. if you have 3.0, all you need to do is pop the card in the unit and change the dialing options and you are good to go.

edit: assuming you just want to get info from broadband. Of course you need to diddle to get video extraction

Funny thing is that recycled costs more. I had to use paper run out of peanuts.
