I just picked up one of these printers today and I've been looking around for cheap toner. That beats everything I've found so far, even on non-OEM... Lowest I've found so far is $58.99 (+7.99 s/h) on a compatible one from NexImaging. I ran across a toner refill kit for about $33 too, but I don't know if they're worth it or not.

im not sure if im gonna get a refill...my prints havent been coming out as well as when i got it...anyone have problems printing envelopes??? they come out really light....but the test page looks the same as when i got it

I've noticed that with envelopes, so I tried turning the toner saver on and off and it didn't make any difference. Are you using Word's envelope tool to enter the addresses? I am...and I think it's some weird thing Word is doing...it's almost like it's not printing characters, but is printing a bitmap of the address and it looks like it's grayscale or something.

My prints were getting lighter too.....I did shake the toner slightly and that seemed to fix the problem.

Does anybody know/remember if the toner that came with the printer was a starter one??

How many prints does this provide??

I also get light printing on envelopes using an older Samsung 4600 with MS Word. I might try StarOffice and see if there is the same problem. If so, it could be a driver issue.

How many prints does this provide??

It is a starter one good for 1000 prints..... if you hold down the toner save button for about 3 seconds and then release, you should get a printer status page that will tell you how many pages youve printed

kewl ... I thought mine was running out of toner ... didnt thinnk I'd done 1000 prints ... I havent ... only 240 ... so I took the toner out, and shook it ... and surprise ... black is black ... I wonder if the toner has problems if it's not used a lot ...

I just bought toner from ebay. Like the 18 dollar one for 2 65 g bottles someone mentioned above. Works great. Its really easy to change to. Just pop the stopper off on the right side of the tube part, and pour away. It was a bit messy the first time I did it, but now I know to give it some air flow. I'd suggest perhaps doing it in the shower or something if you're afraid of toner all over the place. But for an 18 dollar replacement, it works great.

I just put a new toner cartridge in and the printer still does not print that great on envelopes. Perfect on a piece of paper but not an envelope. Must be some kind of defect. Oh well, can't complain. Paid $100 for a laser printer. What do I expect.

Can someone share with me how you refill the toner for this printer? I can't find the hole plug from cartridge. It seems fixed on the tube part. There's no place to pop anything out.

Got mine today...WOW the ink quality shot up- now i'm wondeing if my "starter pack" ever really was rated for 1000pages (yes i did shake it)...

either way, 300dpi + toner save on the new one looks better than 600dpi w/o toner save on the old one

i'm satisifed ^^

There is a firmware update from Samsung that is supposed to help the light envelope printing. My toner ran low after about 600 pages and wouldn't print an envelope at all until I refilled it. Some have commented that the update help though.

Can you point to a URL for the firmware update? I've looked all over the Samsung site and all I see are USB and printer driver updates, but no firmware update.

UPDATE: I emailed Samsung about the light envelope problem, they emailed me the firmware update as a response. I'm not home now to try it out, but will try to report back later.
