When Quake 3 came out everyone was hyped over the metal box Special Edition for like $60...and i was reading that it was in limited quantities.

What hoax? It's the exact same price as the regular version at BB AND you get a headset that goes for $25 at CDW, etc. Plus a cool silver box! What more could you ask for?? lol

Not that it will do any good but I at least let them know I was not happy that I could have gotten it somewhere else but did not beuase they assured me I was all set. They entered that information in their system. Supposedly that will get to corporate and be reviewed.

I'm pretty pissed at my local EB. I was the first one in the area who preordered the Special Edition. They were shipped one short. Guess who didn't get his?

They seem to think that they'll be able to get my copy but we'll see. By the time I get the damn thing Half Life 2 will be out.

I spent an entire day looking for UT2004 SE, and went to the local Best Buy, and they told me they originally had been told that they weren't getting anymore copies of SE, but because of the demand, they will be getting 3 more shipments. They said their next shipment will be the 24th, and they are expecting 20 copies. The local Gamestop and EB informed me the same thing, except the amount of copies are different. EB was supposed to get 15, with Gamestop getting 25.

I managed to grab two copies of the SE DVD edition from my local CC this weekend. They JUST got their copies in on Saturday in my area, so there may still be a few around. You will end up paying $39.99 as opposed to the $29.99 BB price, but it's better than nothing, eh?

I'm in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.

which is why the original cancellation those who pre-ordered from bestbuy.com was turned into "backordered till 4/24".. however it seems everyone who rec'd the backorder notice received another "order cancelled" today.

Yep, same thing happened to me. Mine got canceled the day before Bestbuy got them in stores, and I so was scrambling to get my hands of an SE with no luck - so i went ahead and bought the regular ver.

Now I'm just praying that they send us the RIGHT version of UT2004. I'm surprised that they even got in a 2nd shipment; i thought for sure they wouldve sold out of the SE's the 1st week. I wonder if theres any chance of BB actaully refunding my regular copy.

We were all right on several other deals, as well - including the now Infamous GF Ti4600 fiasco. Never stopped BB from screwing us all before, why should it stop them now?

You know, at first I was excited to get the SE version because of the lack of CD swapping. Now that I have the regular version - which runs fine with a no-cd patch, or even without the disk at all in Linux, I just don't see the point of all this. If I get the SEs from BB, great. I can be sure of making a profit at this point. Otherwise, I just take it as a sign that I have to stop being stupid enough to order from Best Buy. If it isn't on the shelf with a deep discount, it isn't a hot deal - EVER - with Best buy.

sorry saw this thread late because i've been too busy playing..

i pre-ordered mine in the EB store and they price matched BB to 29.99...plus i get the 20 dollar gift card. it's really the first time i ever pre-ordered a game and it turned out great...
