Hot? Verbatim 50pk 8x DVD+R $24.99 OTD @ Micro Center

I just picked up a 50 pack of Verbatim 8X DVD+R's at Micro Center in Mayfield Heights, OH, today for $24.99 no rebates. I've heard somewhere that not all Verbatims are the good MCC ones. Is this true? I haven't opened my package yet, but they say made in Taiwan.

Anyone? Is this a hot deal? I really want to open these if they're quality DVD+R's.

Verbatims is one of the best discs that you can get. They make good stuff
at a premium price.

So would you consider this deal hot? I just opened the spindle and used Nero InfoTool on a disc and it reports it as MCC003. I heard these were good discs, right?

That's not entirely true. Verbatim doesn't "make" DVDs, they buy from other sources and rebrand as their own. Almost everyone does the same thing, so it's not a big deal. The problem with Verbatim is that they buy from many different factories, so you can't be sure what you're getting. It might be MCC or TY, top quality stuff. It also might be CMC magnetics or some other crap.

Solema, you'll need to run DVD Indentifier os some other app like that to know exactly what you've got inside the package. The "made in Taiwan" label isn't enough to distinguish between Verbatim disks.

EDIT: And in the time I was typing that you did run an identity check. Yep, MCC are excellent disks, so it's a good deal.

Yeah but the 4x ones don't have the same dye as the 8x ones...my Verbatim 8x's burn at a defualt of 12x!! No hacked bios! on my DVR-108

I've also heard rumors of Verbatim using non-MCC disks, but never seen it confirmed. Unfortunately, MCC is made in Taiwan, so you can't tell what you got til you open the package. Verbatim isn't quite the same as the other rebranders .. Mitsubishi makes the disks, but they also own Verbatim Co, and no doubt *strongly* encourages Verbatim to use their own factories. As long as MCC is good, Verbatim will be the brand to look for.

Actually, the MCC003 disk standard was one developed by Matuhistu technologies that was quickly replaced with the newer 004 standard. Apparantly with these disks if you attempt to do a manual eject (with a paper clip) while the drive is still moving you can cause permanent damage to your drive. Save your money solema, and buy a grossly oversized digital camera.

they have two versions, some stores have both, some have one

one is made in taiwan and the other is made in japan

What the? The dye type or quality of the discs, has nothing to do with whether or not you should use the emergency manual eject hole on your drive. AFAIK, those are only supposed to be used with power off. So if you tried it while it was spinning and hosed your drive, sorry, that was pure user-error.

MCC discs are normally very high-quality, as good as T-Y or better, in some cases, IMHO.

I just bought two 50 pack Sony DVD+R 4x at CompUSA for $19.99 each, no rebates. One question, on the label says 1-8x. Does this mean the speed is upto 8x?
