The Weird thing is, I can't get it to work with any other modem, I have to select 19200 modem, and keep the port at 19200 to get it to work .. This is really confusing

YAY! I fixed my problem. I'm confusing PORT speed with MODEM speed. ALL THIS TIME, I thought I was changing the port speed when I was just changing the modem speed.

Since I installed a 19600 modem, the DEFAULT port speed was 19600, that's why when I set my phone to 19600 it worked

But when I tried 115200 on my phone, I change the MODEM SPEED to 115200, and left the PORT speed at 19600 DOH!

NOW everything is fine, I simply set the port to 19600 from control panel --> modems --> properties
and BINGO it connects and I download up to 7kb/s. Not bad!

BUT KRUSTY, how are you getting port speeds higher than that? Windows XP's max is 115200.

You need to set your port speed higher ... up in the 154600 range.

You'll definately need the cable. I'm not sure what others are using but I got my cable for $20 at radioshack and downloaded my drivers from www.futuredial.com

I have a VX4400.

Check if radio shack has cables for your phone!

David

Do you have the Radio Shack info for this cable? I have the cheaper vx2000 phone and was wondering if this cable would work? $20 sounds better than the $50 they want for my phone data kit.

I apologize, I was thinking of something else. 115200 should be it. Glad you got it working!

Normally these cables are brand specific, not phone specific, so the LG cable most likely works across all LG phones ...

The boys at Radio Shack should be able to steer you in the right direction - $50 for a cable is ridiculous. If Radio Shack can't help, try Ebay. I paid $7 for my Motorola cable, after shipping.

Back on 6/12, I bought the software ($40) from Radio Shack and the cable was free ($20). I havent tried it yet, and do not know if this was a national promotion, but all this info is very helpful!

What I do not understand, is do you have to be a member of some Internet service (ISP) in order to access the Web - OR - do you gain access via this connection (Verizon+LG4400+cable)?

Thanks to all who have contributed to this tread - especially those with a 4400 cell phone!

To all of you with the LG phones, particularly the 4400, how is the real world battery life? I am just a little concerned since the display is 64k color. Also, comments on battery life for the Kyocera would be appreciated too.

Thanks...

You gain access via the connection ... if you use EN you'll be assigned an IP that resolves to xxx.myvzw.com

I just ordered that same data cable for my T720 from Eforcity. I'm also using Windows XP so I guess the drivers will be there. I don't need the Verizon software to set up anything then?

My car adapter, hands free, and data cable from Eforcity are all working great ... I guess it just tells you what kind of markup other people are putting on this stuff.

Krusty et al,

Did you guys read the reviews on this site/store?

Here is the link:

Reselleratings on Eforcity

Just wondered, as I have been thinking of buying an additional battery for my 4400, even though its only 60 days old...

Thanks again for all the input!

Very interesting! They shipped my items incredibly fast, and as I said above I've had no problems with their products. I have recommended them to friends who have also ordered with no problems, and I have read accounts on other message boards of people buying their accessories from Eforcity with no problems whatsoever.

I don't know about you, but I personally like the option of calling to add EN without extending my contract a lot better

it doesn't matter to me in the least as i'm completely sold on Verizon and have NO intention of going anywhere else for my cell phone services. they have the best network, the best services, decent phones.

but, i didn't actually extend my contract, i originally signed up for a 2 year contract about 1 year ago and they said i just had to sign up for 1 year to add EN. not an additional year but 1 year from when i signed up.

Some have had success dialing *611 for customer service, some have had success calling Data Services. Either way, tell them you want the Express Network plan that has no additional per month charges and just uses your available minutes. Depending on the rep, they might ask for a promotional code.

I'll agree with that ... Verizon's coverage is solid wherever I have been, their rate plans are very competitive and this new free data option only moves them farther ahead of all other providers.

*drool* sweet! Will the LG VX2000 work with Express Network and does anyone have any comments about that phone? Any recommendations for cheap phones?

Yes, the LG VX2000 is EN compatible. Any new phone you purchase from Verizon Wireless should be EN capable, except the Kyocera KWC2135.
