Does anyone know if I'll be charged for using the builtin web browsing feature of this phone? It gives me a message when I try to access the browser stating that there will be a charge, or does it just use the included minutes?

Verizon charges for its "Mobile Web" service, which is basically using their WAP gateways to translate web pages. You can set up a new profile, using the free Waptunnel gateway. Set the IP address to 207.232.99.109 and the port to 9201. This service will just use your airtime minutes.

Whoa, awesome. I'm gonna have to try that. Here is a direct link for those of you who have the VX4400.

Heh. I am posting this from the Walmart parking lot.
Prety nifty. It's actually not that bad for the occasional use.

So, if you have the service (I am in Kansas) and you travel to a place like Arkansas where Verizon says the service is not available -- I assume I would not be able to connect when I travel to Arkansas to the lake (there is digital service there). Anyone know ?

You can use the slower QNC, available anywhere there is Verizon digital service.

Wow, this is huge. I work at a Verizon retail store, and of course we have heard nothing about the Express Network being availible on all plans. I'm wondering, has anyone gotten it to work with the VZW Mobile Office Kit, or just with aftermarket software and cables?

There's no reason it wouldn't work with the Mobile Office kit, but I doubt you'll find any non-Verizon employee who has actually bought the MO because it is so damned overpriced

where did you guys get the info to dial in #777 and such?

Use this link and download the futuredial driver installer.

Instructions I created to backup what I did
1.) Install the Future Dial USB drivers.

2.) Connect the phone via the Future Dial usb cable.

3.) Let XP auto-detect and install the drivers.

4.) Go to Start->Control Panel->Network Connections->
Create new connection.

5.) Enter in Verizon Express Network for the name.

6.) Enter #777 for the number to dial

7.) Login=phonenumber@vzw3g.com

8.) Password=vzw

9.) Under properties for the Samsung CDMA modem
in modem initialization string enter in:
AT$QCMDR=3

Hi, it's been a while since I've been in this forum. I was wondering if anyone can help me out. Does anyone know how to set up the manual installation for futuredial. I purchased the cable for LG phones at Radio Shack, and now I have to try to install a USB driver. Right now, I am stuck and don't know what to do. My phone is not listed in the automatic installation which would have been simple enough. I have an LG TM510. There is a driver for it on the Manual (advanced user) installation, but I don't know what to do once I get all the zipped files. I only see icons for uninstall. Please let me know if you can help me out with step by step instructions. Thanks a bunch! I love hot deals

Whenever it connects to the EN network it says "Connected at 230 Kbps", but the connection is painfully slow, more of the order of 2-3 kbps. One time I saw that I could download a file upto 12 kbps, and thats the maximum I could get.

How are you guys getting 60-70 kbps? please advise....

I have a motorola c333 CDMA phone, radioshack futuredial cable, verizon dialer, did the init string command, battery level is approx 80%, and signal strength is also 80-90%.

Please let me know how to speed up the connection. thanks........

i think you mean it says connected at 230 Kbps but you're connecting at 2-3 kb/s (kilobits vs kilobytes).

i have the same problem. it seems to be better during the daytime(i can get 2 or 3 kb/s versus 500 b/s). i talked to CS at Verizon and they said that they couldn't help me since I wasn't using the Mobile Office Kit. The guy suggested getting the kit because it has some data compression stuff or something like that. I won't be doing that though

I have a Motorola T720 that I got in December and the firmware hasn't been upgraded yet. I'm going to go do that soon and hope that helps my problems. Other wise i'll just deal with the slow slow speeds.

I am typically connecting and downloading at 6-8 kBs. that is Kilobytes about 48-64 kilobits

I love my free express Network on unlimited evenings and weekends, faster than dialup.

okay folks...listen up i have sprint and i have their "express network" which on our plans is called vision. Basically you use the vision part of the phone and just connect directly to the computer via a $14.99 cable and you're instantly on. Well that's using my 8100 of course

the speeds is 144kbps, when i'm away from the office, i always have my laptop around with me and my cable/cellphone so i can check emails or go on these forums

it's totally free if you have the vision plan and you don't violate any TOS.

another interesting note is that sprint dials out to #777 as well....hmmm i'm now wondering if they are sharing some kind of internal network...

I dont know how accurate the people claiming 60-70k are...

I connect at 230 kbp and I get between 10-20kb sometimes 20+.

Edit
based on my dslreports speed test
its 70-80kbps but 8KB
around 70kbps upload 80 download

i tried using mobile web on my phone (samsung a310) using the free waptunnel service. I got to one screen where it had listed "cool sites" and some other listings but if I chose any of them, I got a message saying that 'text/html' is not one of my configured media types.. anyone know how to fix this?
