<< I dont play too many games, but I have a Riva128 and its just not doing anything for me. But I really dont know which one I should get, lil help here please? >>

Well, if you don't play too many games, then what are you getting a new video card? I can vouch for the card in this thread, because I bought one and it's really good. But I would only recommend it for 3d games. What else are these cards for? Maybe 3d appz, but I don't have any experience there.

Inverse,

From what I've ready, you definitely DO NOT..want to waste your money on a MX400 video card. This card should be much better at half the price.

Will this card work in a PII 450 Intel 440bx motherboard?

I have an ATI xper right now. Looking to upgrade my entire system eventually but being $-challenged I have to do it piece by piece

It should be right at home. And since your $-challenged you might want to upgrade your CPU & MoBo to a Duron eventually (can't beat it, 1Ghz Cpu for $45.) based solution. This card will work really well with a Duron.

and for the price you shouldn't pass it up!!!

Gotta love newegg order shows boxed up and ready for the truck already

Picked up a MSI Geforce2 Ti 64mb DDR over the holidays for just over $100 shipped and have not had the need to overclock it. Since the Ti runs at 250/400 it is silky smooth on the all 3d applications (Quake3 and 4x4 evoultion). I've just kicked back and enjoyed it without feeling the usual urge to tweak it....

Make sure you got an agp slot on that thing!

you might wanna be careful, on really old bx boards, there wasnt enough voltage sometimes (supplied to the card via agp). if you have an intel mobo, i know i had good results, but you might wanna be careful and check around first, just to make sure that your mobo will supply enough power to the video card

just got me one....Should be a good upgrade from my TNT2Ultra 32mg.....Was considering a GF3Ti200 but would rather save the $100.00 and still have a good upgrade.

If you don't mind a refurbished card, then check out the Visiontek 6564 for $129 shipped. That's the GF3 Ti 200 version. At the moment I'm trying to decide between it, and the Gainward GF3 Ti 200 for $163 shipped. Leaving aside any possible problems with a refurbished card, is the Gainward really going to be better than the Visiontek model using the same chipset?

EDIT: Yep, they are all gone. Those newegg refurbs sell quick.

Thanks,
D.

I purchase this card a few months ago when it was around $65. $52 is an awesome price for this outstanding card.

Using Coolbits, I have my card running at 220/330 which is faster than a stock GTS.

This is an excellent bargain for the cost/performance conscious.

Sorry, no experience in the DVD department.

I'm a little unsure about this card as I haven't heard of the GTS-V verison before. Anyone have a link to a review? How would this card for $59 shipped compare to the Leadtek GF2 Pro for $79 shipped. Is the GTS-V really close enough in performance to warrant saving $20?

EDIT: OOPs, I just realized the Leadtek GF2 Pro is not in stock. I guess that price probably won't be available elsewhere.

No one knows about the DVD playback of this card? What about 2-D app?

DVD playback is fine. As long as you have a fast processor (>500MHz), any modern video card should render DVD movies without troubles on your PC.

2D isn't that great. At 1152x864 on my 17" monitor, it's fine but try it at 1600x1200 on a 19" and it isn't as pretty. You have to remove a few capacitors on the board to eliminate the lowpass filtering that can degrade the image. But it's no different than most nVidia boards.

Thanks for the help on the types of geforces. However, I still don't know if the GTS-V w/ 32 ddr sdram will still outperform the MX400 w/ 64 sdram. however, i'm tempted to get the GTS-V simply cuz the chip is better (even though it has less memory) and it's cheaper.

The GTS-V with its 32 mb of DDR RAM will outperform a MX400 with 64mb of its crippled RAM(either 128-bit SDR or 64-bit DDR) any day of the week. Memory bandwidth is the limiting factor for the GF2. And you will probably see no performance increase with 64mb vs 32mb for most games, especially considering the settings you're using probably would be relatively conservative with the system you're going to use this card for.

64mb of RAM in video cards is more useful for selling the cards rather than actual performance increase in most games.

goog40 is exactly right the 64 and the new 128 is basically marketing! there are other limits that need to be taken care of before 64 mb or 128mb willl make a difference. and also remember that this ddr is alot faster than the sd in the other card you are speaking of not to mention the fact that the processor is clocked higher!
