Great price!

Linky

If only my wife could cooperate with me and have this in my main room. I would be set!

I already have the Panasonic 42PX60U, but I need a plasma that has a slightly bigger screen.

this needs to come down more. It was $1699 6 months ago and most other plasma and lcds have dropped 1/3 since the beginning of the year. Maybe Plasmas just don't drop in price like LCDs do.

What are the advantages of a plasma over an LCD? Higher contrast ratio, right? It seems the resolution is really lacking.

supposedly better blacks, but my eyes can't really see the difference and that resolution will get you true hd @ 720p (1280x720). some people feel that 720p looks better than 1080i but it is totally up to the person. to get a true 1920x1080 plasma in 50" is going to cost quite a bit more. for the price it is pretty good imho.

the plasma picture just looks crisper and richer color. It could be because of the pane of glass over the screen.

I'd rather have a 1366x768 Plasma over a 37" 1080P lcd any day of the week. SD on a LCD looks super crappy and looks great on a plasma.

you are making blanket statements that are not entirely correct. to make the situation even worse is that the stores feed different sets different quality of feeds which leads others to feel much different than you do. the real test is when you get it home and how it is to your liking, what i may like you may not, too bad they are such a pain in the a$$ to move around and back to the store again to actually try them out in your enviornment.

Go look at a plasma and LCD in a side by side comparison. Be sure to check out the LCD from the side angles. I just got my mom a 42" plasma that look alot better than any LCD I have seen. I even have a DLP here at home and I can honestly say I wish I got a plasma. Don't trust me though go look in a store for yourself. And listen to what bob said make sure they all have the same quality feeds.

I agree with bob and aaron on this topic on Plasma vs. LCD. It is very important to take it home and tweak the settings. I will say it again. Tweak the settings!

If you are looking at plasma in-store side-by-side it is not a direct comparison between the various models. All of the models that are displayed are straight out of the box and most the pictures are set to vivid. I was so turned off by the way the Panasonic 60 series looked. It had the nasty clay-face/fuzzy look that made me buy this plasma at a risk. At first I was not going to buy it. I felt that the Samsung's out of the box looked better at CC or BB displays. So I heard about the 60U series getting rave reviews and I took a shot. Well the reviews justify the performance of the 42PX60U. If you you are able to tweak the settings to your liking and I believe the side-byside comparison at the stores go out the door. It is too hard to evaluate the performance of each TV in store without having the settings being placed at your liking.

To be honest with you the Vizio P50 was not impressive at all at CC or Sam's. It looked fuzzy and not as sharp as the other models. Even on HD feed coming in as well. However, I am curious how it would look when I get it home and tweak it. I think the P50 would be a great TV for the money.

Remember the TV's are made for HDTV feeds. You will be disappointed if you buy these for EDTV or SDTV. Once you go HDTV you will never go back. I would make sure that you a DirecTV, Dish, or Comcast before seeking a TV. If not you will be disappointed. Remember this: The source is as only good as its output!!!!

I bought one last week, when it was $1500 after a $200 rebate at Circuit City. Very pleased with how it looks. Reviews for this model have been very good, taking into account the price. Sound quality is suprising good. CNET's review mentioned some complaints about fan noise, but I've not found fan noise a problem at all. Standard DVD playback from a Philips 5960 DVD player is very good also. As mentioned earlier, viewing angles are not an issue. The TV is pretty heavy, at 130 lbs.

I think the fan noise issue was corrected in production quite a while back. This is about as good as it gets for a 50" plasma, as far as bang for the buck is concerned.

Black Fri., I got this at CC and used their 18 month finance. $1499AR.
Outstanding display! No fan that anyone in my house can hear.
This is this year's model...you can't go wrong!

nice deal, may return my rear projection 50" Akia I got 9 month for for the same price.

Although, when the Vizio first came out, I thought I had read that they used some short cut in the components or manufacturing that impacted image quality to keep the price low.

Can't remember what it was, but at the time it was enough to give me 2nd thoughts. Not sure if holds true for now.

anyway, thanks for the posts OP

This 50" plasma is highly rated especially for the price. Very good reviews at AVSforum from users.

I'm lucky that I don't have use for this plasma because otherwise it would be hard for me to resist. 50" is too big for my bedroom and too small for my living room.

I'll bet that CC would 110% price match this. So you may be able to get it for $1469 at CC. Worth a shot!

Many are saying this model with the TV tuner is not as good for some reason..

Unfortunately a 50" plasma is just too big and heavy for my apartment, otherwise I'd probably buy this right now.

Jnmunsey, I've read something to that effect but can't find backup to confirm. I'm itching to pull the trigger on this one before they are gone (for xmas), but it would be nice to at least read what the complaint was to make an informed decision.

I have gotten 42 in Haier from Office Depot on Black Friday, and I am watching regular analog TV, and it is not that good, but normal DVD's are very good. It costs me $799 after $500 rebate, so can't really complaint since it has HDMI, VGA and host of other inputs.

Anybody knows about off-air HDTV signals?

How can a 100lb TV be too heavy for an apartment?

I have Vizio VP42 Plasma and it looks great. If you get a cheap Zenith HD antenna (Model # ZHDTV1). You should get at least 10-20 HD channels depending on where you live.

I just came back from Costco (B&M) and didn't see any of the larger Vizio (had seen the 50" at one point.

They have instead, a Maxent (MX5020 50" plasma) for $1499. Anyone know anything about this one, is it comp to the Vizio P50?

Was hoping to save on the $150 cost of shipping !

thanks

I sure hope that this is not to Costco!!!!!!!!!!!!
If indeed it is as it looks and you are returning a 9 month old rear projection just because you changed your mind and now want plasma and/or the price is lower...
eat my shorts!

You don't have to FUBAR it up for everyone else!
If there is another reason, I apologize in advance and invite you to attack and prove me wrong!

I fail to see how using a stated liberal return policy is abuse.
