Let me make sure I understand this...BB has the WD Special for $70 if there's a CC nearby. So you go to Circuit City, PM to Best Buy's Price, send in for the rebates and get the drive for free?

I just did this on Friday for the 80MB WD drive...

I went to BB near me and 1) 80MB drives were sold out and 2) the price tag showed $139 - $70 rebate. But I went the CC right near it and they had 4 of them, so I showed them the scanned BB shelf tag showing $69.95 for the drive and the CSR PM'd it 110%. I got the drive out the door for $65.99 + tax. She also gave me the rebates and gave me my scanned print out of BB tag back hehe. $65-$10-$30

And now I see this deal, so I call BB and the guy said they dont have 120 WD's which most likely means its sold out. But the deal is legit if you can show CC the BB price. I used a scanned copy of the BB shelf tag and she PM'd it with that, she didnt even call BB to see 1) if they had any in stock(which they didnt) or 2) if they still had that price of 69.99 out the door(which the didnt the price they had when i went showed rebates hehe). So this is deal depends on YMMV and the CSR at CC. Im gonna go to bestbuy and see if the price is 79.99 out the door and then bring a price verification sheet to CC and see if they will PM it, hopefully they wont call BB to see if they have any instock.

Next question: how do I get a scanned shelf tag? Do I just take it from the shelf, or is there actually somewhere in the store where they have them?

I just got back from Circuit City. I was almost not able to get it done, they were trying to tell me they didn't have to price match because after rebate their price was the same. I pointed out the sign on the wall that explained the pricematch policy, and told them I didn't want to have to wait 8 weeks to get the same price. Eventually they gave me $100 back, so I didn't get the 110% price match, but still got it for $80 with $100 in rebates means I make $20.

So the drive is $79.99 out the door at Best Buy? Isn't that a hot deal in itself if you can't get the PM to work?

I told them is wasn't a good I did to change there price mathcing policy in mid stream. They tried to say that after the rebate the price was the same as Best Buy. I pointed out to them that they don't price match rebates. Then I got the deer-in-the headlights look from the CSR. Circuit City has the same drive as Best Buy but the model # has an L on the end. I told them this was becuase Western Digital had change the packaging on all of there HD's, (Circiut City drive WD1200JBRTL) ( THE L IS NOT ON THE BEST BUY DRIVE, so YMMV.) I price matched to my local Circuity City for $69.99+tax, plus $100 MIR.

I went to a different Cirucuit City and bought there drive first for $188 w/$100 MIR. One rebate is $80 and the other is $20. Took it back about an hour later with my receipt from my first purchase and got a price adjustment. End of the Day I got 2 WD 120 Gig 8 meg buffer HD's, AR I get the drive free and make $54!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck

This has been edited several times. I will get right sooner or later

damn, no BB here in Blacksburg

i was actually able to get the last one at my CC, of course bestbuy was sold out...i tried two different CC's, and after arguing for about 30mins or so at each one, i finally gave up. I would've tried some other CC's, but i've got finals to deal with

oh well, congrats to those that got the PM.

Anyone know off the top of their head how long the CC deal for this HD is running?

Cause I called BB and they'll get more in stock Tuesday...

Deal didn't work at the CC in Overland Park, KS. I'm going back tomorrow, this time not mentioning anything about a rebate (the rebate prints out after you purchase it). We'll see.

It's a definite YMMV (I tried and failed), but worth the hassle if you can get it. Still a great deal from BB to get the HDD for $79.99 without rebates.

CompUSA has the drive for $99.99 after $80 MIR Link and Rebate. Try to have them pricematch to BB (don't mention anything about rebate, cause it's invalid with rebate). Print off the rebate form, send it in.

Total cost is $79.99 - $80MIR + tax on $79.99 = $5.80 (for me, anyway). All try this tomorrow.

I just scored this deal.

Net profit: $25 in my pocket + the 120GB HD.

Here's how I did it:

Went to CC, picked up the drive and bought it for full price. Came out to be almost $200 after tax. Two rebates printed out ($80, $20).

Went to my car, dropped off the HD and went back into the store with only my receipt.

Told the guy working at the Returns Merchandise that BB had it for $79.99. He goes and calls the store and came back and gave me a price adjustment. CC gives 110% PM gaurantee. $100 difference * 110% = $110.00 back to me + tax.

So, after the price adjustment, I paid $69.99 + tax (~$75 after tax in TX) and I still have $100 of rebates coming in.

Finally I get a good deal...missed out on all the good ones in the past month... I'm happy

you are correct as Lanyap pointed out...it is what is called a market reaction on BB's part..retail only and usually just for the first day of the sale...that is why you may or may not get them near you...

There were 2 left in Denver Colorado Blvd. BB about an hour ago. Might be gone now. I bought 2 at BB, bought one a CC down the road. Went back an hour later and successfully pricematched to BB price at CC. After a little eBay and rebate return, final price for 2 hard drives will be around $40. Awesome deal!!

I just go two @ CC in San Jose - Blossom Hill store. But didn't get 110% pricematch. Guy didn't give me rebate, I'll just print them online instead.

the store had 5-6 left. Both new box design and old. I took 2 new designs.

I just asked Best Buy for copy of price tag and the guy gave it to me.

had somewhat of a little fuss at CC but the guy gave in as a long line suddenly built behind me.

79.99 + CA tax = 86.59 - 100 MIR.

paid 13.41. Thanks Voodoo3

Oh forgot to say BB didn't have any instock at all. and CC never bothered calling.

Ya' know, I'm a married man...but seriously, I love you guys here.

Walked right into CC, talked to the unusually cheerful CS rep, told her the price...

"No way...that can't be!," she says...

She makes the call to BB and, after a few discussions (gee, can't imagine why these guys wouldn't want to tell her the shelf price so I could get my PM and rebate! ), I walk out the door with the HD and rebate for $70 and change.

The best part was watching the formerly cheery CS rep as I walked out the door. She didn't know which was up or down!

Great post, if your CC will do it. I had actually bought this exact drive an hour before I saw this post. I called BB, verified the price, and the guy made me a copy of the shelf flag. Took that to CC, but they said no. They said that they have already matched the price, even though you actually have to wait 8-10 weeks for the price match. :s

I would have pressed it, but the deal breaker was that BB was out of stock now. The guy said that most of the BBs are out of that drive now. But, I've still got a great 120gig for $80 AR. Congrats to those of you who got this deal to work out!

Deal is either great or awesome, either way can't lose. Now I'm heading back to CC see if a different CSR is available
