OK, here is the info on the PriceMatch Plus policy from Circuit City's site:

Definitions:
Advertised price - Any printed or electronically broadcast price that is verifiable and made available to the general public. Special offers or promotions do not qualify. This includes, but is not limited to, rebates, free-with-purchase offers, and special financing.

Local store - Refers to a location in the same metropolitan area and/or within a reasonable distance of our store, as long as the lower price is advertised.

Same item - Exactly the same model, in the same condition, new, in a box, with applicable manufacturer's warranty available.

In stock - Available for sale and delivery that day.

Policy:
Nothing's worse than paying too much. That's why we do everything in our power to make sure you don't pay a penny more than you should for anything you buy at Circuit City. If you've seen a lower advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. Even after your Circuit City purchase, if you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days, we'll refund 110% of the difference. We're with you!

Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers, and special financing.

Now, it says nothing about not matching because CC has a lower price after rebate, but they will not pricematch another company's pricematch. Makes sense. To take it a step further, they could just not PM the thing because the drive is not "advertised." It is simply BB's in-store price. However, no store in their right mind that wants to stay in business would send a customer to a competitor's store to buy a drive because of that.

Also, my buddy and I got one each at the CC on Brodie Ln. here in Austin. They didn't print the rebate forms for us, but they are on the website.

Thanks again for the great bargain!

Since I bought 2, and I'm not so sure there will be another on the shelves tomorrow, could I bring a friend and tell the CSR that the friend wants to buy the drive that I just returned? You'd figure that the price is on the reciept and stuff, so we shouldn't have to go through the who PM process again, and since it's new and unopened, hopefully there wouldn't be any restocking fee.

Any thoughts?

And hopefully those web-rebates will work.

I forgot to mention, the manager at CC said "to tell you the truth, we would rather have you go buy it at BB, because it's a better deal." I wonder if he has a future in retailing?

Got the deal. Went to my first Best Buy that happens to be right next door to a Circuit City. Bought the last drive at Best Buy just in case I couldn't get the deal at Circuit City. Went next door to Circuit City, did the PM for $73 plus tax. The CSR was kind of an a*s and kept the rebate forms, so I just left.

I went to my next Circuit City about 20 minutes away and tried to do the price match and they wouldn't let me because they said that they have the same price after rebate. I said that I didn't care about the rebate. He said that I was entitled to the rebate if he did the PM, that's why he can't do it. So.. I didn't buy the drive, but I pulled out my receipt from the other store and asked him to reprint my rebate forms that I didn't get at the other store. After all, I'm entitled to the rebates (his words, not mine). He printed them off and off I went.

That's what you can do if you don't want to use the online rebate forms. Just go to a circuit city and tell them that they didn't give you the rebate forms.

Now.. I just wanted 1 drive with the rebates because I only have one address currently to submit the rebates for anyway. I figured that I'd send in the rebates for the drive that I got the rebate forms from and keep the other drive for $70 (with the price match). That's still a killer deal.

Am I figuring this correctly? I spent $73 with tax on one drive and I'm going to get $100 in rebates back? That's making $26-$27 after rebates with tax. Hell of a deal! So.. With the drive that I bought for $80 at Best Buy (I'll probably keep that as well), after rebates and tax is figured, I'm only going to be out of pocket about $57 for 2 WD1200JB drives.

well I got one of the CCs to sell it to me at the PM ($69.99+tax), and then they threw away the rebate forms that printed out (argh).
Now it's just to decide whether the web forms will work or not. Don't see why not I guess.

The online forms will work for Circuit City. It's Best Buy where you can't use the online forms. It says on the online forms for Best Buy that the online forms are for online sales only. That you need to get a CSR at the store to print you out rebate forms at the store if you don't have the forms. I've done this before. Even if a CSR is an a*s, just go back in later and tell them that the CSR that you dealt with didn't give you the rebate forms and that you need them to print them out for you. A lot of times, if they are jerks about the forms when I do the price match, I'll just walk around the store once and then go back up to the counter and ask them to reprint my rebate forms.

Manager didn't look happy but did it.

Since I have the rebate receipts CC printed for me showing the regular price of $179.99 I don't think I'll have a problem getting the rebates.

Was wondering how kosher this would be? I don't think you can send the rebate receipts for the full price unit in
with the UPC from the Pricematched unit they didn't give you rebate receipts for. And I don't think you could return the PM'd
unit with the receipt for the full price unit in order to make the UPC and receipts you send in match. Those receipts have a
scannable UPC. Now, I'm just guessing, but it seems likely that they would be able to tell this was the wrong box you were
trying to return/get a rebate on. Am I wrong?

You know I wonder would CC or WD get suspicous when they look at the purchase price is like only 69.99 or 79.99 and they are gonna cut us a 20/80 check?
I've absolutely never had a problem getting a rebate no matter what I paid for the product. It doesn't say anything in their terms about a rebate being contingent on the price that you pay either. If you were to get denied, I'd raise hell with the rebate dept. I doubt that you'd have to worry about that though. I never have.

BASTARDS, I got a Price ticket from BB and took it to CC and they said, Ya, its the same price, after MIR, I said, Yes but I dont feel like waiting, and The pricematch has NOTHING to do with In-store price, western Digital has NOTHING to do with your Price... its not coming out of this stores Pocket, im just pricing Store to store. They said, Well BB has a MIR on there before its that price too, and I said NO they dont, I was just there, I could call them up if you'd like.. and they said, No sorry, our policy is PM after MIR then I said... ok show me the Price match Guidlings paper... and they Said, well I dont have one but thats our policy, I said, fine, im never shopping here again I bitched with them for like 20 mins... even got the manager out there.... such idiots here in Arizona.

then I said, Ok you're not following your Price match Guidlines... and the manager said, yes we are, I said, Ok show me. in writing, go ahead. and he wouldn't.

I should of just said, Ok fine, just give me the PM and no rebait form, that way I wont have to wait for the rebait... oh well screw it too much of a hassle.

Cal the Circuit City "cool line" 800 number. You can get it from Circuit City. Tell them about the incident, what store it was, the manager's name if you know it. I would be willing to bet a beverage that before the day is out, you will have your price match, rebate forms and whatever else you want.

I used to work for CC and if there was a call from the cool line people in Richmond about a customer complaint, the manager would actually run to take action cause he had 20 minutes to make things right with the customer.

Went to the Bellevue, WA Best Buy (after calling) and they were out of stock. I did manage to get them to issue me a raincheck for $79 and give me a price verification ticket. I then took this to the Bellevue Circuit City to pricematch. The guy called two BBs to verify the price and that it was in stock. No go, no PM.

I pushed him to call the rest of the Seattle metro BBs and he said they only pricematch to "local" stores, and he said local only includes Belleview and Southtown. I asked to see the complete written policy where it defines 'local' and sure enough, it specifies "metropolitan area". He then said he'd call every BB in Seattle for me, went into the back for 1 minute, and came back and said that he called all of them and nobody has it in stock. Grrr... he seemed to call them very quickly. When I asked if I could talk with his manager, he replied "I already did and he said NO".

Oh well... wonder if that raincheck will work.

They did price match the full 110%, but after checkout, refused to give me the rebate forms. The guy said, you can have the price match or the rebates -- one or the other but not both. But that's okay -- I got the rebate forms from CC's website.

I gave my friend the Best Buy receipt an hour latter and they told him that their rebates match the price at Best Buy. He told them he would rather have the full pricematch. The manager said fine but he would keep the upc code.

I scored in Chicago too. I bought the hard drive at BB for $79.99 and then i went to CC and i bought it for $180. I took my MIR's to the car and i waited 5 min and i went back to the store and made a pricematch (110%). i have it for $69.99 and i have MIR's for $100. So i made $25 after tax
