Ok here is another flaming CompUSA deal for some. Please read the entire post before running off to CompUSA to be disappointed.
This is a hot deal on the retail boxed Western Digital 120GB7200 RPM EIDE kit. This deal is not available for everyone, but for those who already purchased this drive at a higher price with a price protection credit card or for those in the right regional area(s) it is hot, hot, hot!
As we all know by now from recent Western Digital hard drive deals posted here, Best Buy often issues temporary in-store price reductions when there is a competitor in their sales area that has same product advertised at a lower price. This week CompUSA has the WD 120GB 7200 RPM drive advertised @ 299.99 with a $100 MIR. Both of the Best Buy?s in my area have temporarily reduced their price on this drive to $199.97 with no rebate to counter CompUSA?s advertised price. You can PM the $199.97 price at CompUSA and still get the $100 MIR. You success with the PM will depend on your local B&M manager. Some managers will PM BB and some will not due to their $100 MIR so not everyone will have success, but for the lucky, they get one great deal on an awesome drive! I was able to PM two of the drives yesterday while I was purchasing 88 cent books. What a day at CompUSA!
I did not post this yesterday because I wanted to verify that the deal was legit and not a pricing error at Best Buy. I re-verified the price at Best Buy this morning after their nightly inventory update so the price reduction is valid. I also wanted to contact the Western Digital rebate center and verify that they would accept the rebate with the lower price. I called them this morning and was told price paid is not a factor when processing the rebate.
Here is the Best Buy info for their drive
Model ? WD1200BBRT
SKU# - 4334107
Price - $199.97
Here is the CompUSA information for their drive
Model ? WD1200BBRT
SKU# - 288322
Price - $299.99 - $100 MIR
WD 120GB HD on CompUSA website
$100 MIR on WD 120GB HD at CompUSA (requires Adobe Acrobat reader)
Note - fine print on $100 MIR states a gift card, but I called and verified that it is not a gift card but a $100 check as stated on the front of the rebate form.
Here are the requirements for this deal to work?
1. You must have a Best Buy B&M and a CompUSA B&M within the same sales area. I don?t know how Best Buy defines a sales area so you will just have to check. Sorry, this deal is NOT available online at bestbuy.com.
2. Your Best Buy must have adjusted their price on the drive to $199.97. For what I understand from previous deals with this type of reduction, this reduction is done at the regional corporate office. If anyone else know different then let me know and I will update the post.
3. The product must be in stock at your local Best Buy B&M.
You can either call your Best Buy B&M and verify their current pricing or stop by the B&M and get them to print a price verification receipt at the customer service counter. If the price is reduced then you know the rest.
I have the following supporting documentation that I can email someone who is willing to post for others
Best Buy B&M shelf tag showing $199.97 price with no rebates
Best Buy price verification receipt showing $199.97 price and date 12/3/2001
Best Buy receipt where I purchased one at $199.97 just in case CompUSA did not honor the PM. (returned this morning)
Please post and success and failures with this deal and good luck!
