Hey MONKEYLOVE GOOD - your local BB idiots are looking at the wrong drive. The 60gig 7200 WD is 179.99 and the 120 is 199.99

Cr*pUSA manager said flatly "No" on PMing BestBuy ( the BestBuy here is right behind Cr*pUSA ) even waved my BB receipt and Cr*pUSA's see-thru policy( yes I wasted paper/ink to print the policy out ).

damn...compusa sucks.

I talked to one guy and he said he could pricematch it if it was in stock...but the best buy nearby had none. So i found a bestbuy about 20 min away that had them in stock($299) and then some girl came up and started saying they have to be local stores and that the pricematch INCLUDES the MIR since i'd be paying the same amount AFTER REBATES. what bs. anyways, i argues for a few minutes but they wouldn't give me one. plus they were out of stock and i needed 2 for a RAID array anyway.

oh well...

No problem with the PM in Columbus, OH. The cashier did not even call, after I told him I just got off the phone before I entered the store with Best Buy to confirm the price and in-stock. He had actually already heard about the pricing. No manager involved or anything.

Out the door for a little of 200 (taxes....). Can't beat this deal.

Thanks GetReal.

Note: This beats the 100GB drive deal at Sam's (and I even have a membership).

no problem to PM. I called BB before I came to CompUSA and they have 1 display. The guy tried to call BB and got the price and came to talked w/his manager. He came back and give me same price $199.97. He said "wow....$100 saving, BB on sale that item? Why they sell it so cheap". I think they have only 1 left in store in Bellflower CA.

My CompUSA was OOS in Rockville, MD and Gaithersburg, MD. I even picked up the drive at BB just so that I could show them the receipt and wouldn't get grief about it being in stock at BB.

And, they said they are not expecting to get any in stock before the end of the week.

CompUSA sucks.

has anyone else confirmed that it is a check and not a gift card that the rebate is for?

i'm not sure why so many have their undies in a bundle over this.

1) sure, it says that in the fine print, but on the front it says "$100 US Dollars Mail In rebate" in huge letters, and repeats it about four times elsewhere on teh form. fine print probablya typo,m it's not the first time it's happened on a compusa rebate form (i've noticed typos in the sotre before and asked about them, and have not had a problem when there were typos).

2) if it's a $100 gift card, would that really make it that much less of a hot deal? In other words, why get so worked up about it if you almost certainly would do it either way?

just a thought, to put the minds of the paranoid at ease

<snicker> did you get the drive anyway? hope so, because that was a chance to beat them at their own little chess game. you are using their PM policy to make an outrageous deal. They respond by giving you the match, but trying to screw up the rebate. If you knew the score, you could have gotten the checkmate by taking them up on their offer, let them take off the UPC, and then when you got home sent in the rebate anyway becasue THE REBATE DOES NOT REQUIRE THE UPC, ONLY THE CAPACITY LABEL (everyone is so fixated on the gift check fine print, maybe no one has caught this yet).

Hope you got hte drive, because that would have been delicious.

Here is my Story :---

Got Drive fron BB for $199 + tax

Took receipt to Crap USA for pricematch . Manager moved a little bit , thought something for 3 mins

& then came & said Sh*t. :|

He said we get the Drive for $253 so we can't Pricematch . Then made a Contradicting statement :-

Said if you can show us ad then we can Pricematch . Well he was totally lost Bs**d.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well there is an idea & pls tell that it can work or not ?

Iam going to buy drive at C*ap USA at regular price tomm.

After 3-4 Days will take the receipt of BB to C*ap USA & will try to pricematch

as in their receipt they have 14 day low price Guarantee.

so i think that they have to honor it .

Please advice !

I figured that out when I got home. I did not purchase the drive I am now kicking myself as this would be sand
in Cr@pUSA face.

Might try tomorrow but they may figure out the rebate by then.

Good luck to all!!

hopefully Ill get a chancee to try this tomorrow at teh store on Route 46 in NJ. Sow hat have most of you guys been doing? Buying the drive for the low price and then taking it over to CompUSa to get teh same price on their drive and then returning the old drive to BB? What would be the best way to do this to ensure success?

I went to two Best Buys tonight and neither had any on the shelf.
Not surprising since they were tagged 199.97, less than the 100GB and 80GB drives!
They said their trucks come in Tuesday nights and the stock is out on Wednesday. I just hope the one CompUSA in town still has some to be scooped by then.

The rebate is from the infamous New Rochelle, NY rebate center. Good luck getting the rebate. If you don't believe it, try calling the Better Business Bureau for the region and see how many complaints they have had.

craftech: that rebate center processes millions of rebates, and is one of the biggest in the country. I don't doubt there have been thousands of complaints -- but I also don't doubt that probably represents about 1% of their traffic.

i assure you, you have no greater or worse chances of getting a rebate out of them than you do any of the many other rebate centers around the country.

Two quick comments:

1) When a CSR or MNGR gives you $hit about the fact that BB and theirs will be the same price after the MIR, show honest ( lol ) concern and ask " Are you going to gurentee me I will get that rebate, as I have gotten screwed out of a lot of deals like this?" Sad but true most of us have experienced some MIR that never come. Telling the MNGR your concerns, and that BB is a sure thing may swing them over the edge.

2) For those wanting to use these in a raid array, I am pretty sure you will have to partition those into 127gig chunks cause any windows variant can only see each partition that large. Don't want to get into a discussion here about it, but I also don't want some fellow anandtecher goinging out and spending the scratch thinking your going to have one huge 240gig partition. Check this out before you buy if raid is your intention.

crafttech - If New Rochelle does not pay your rebate within the 8 weeks as specificed, simply walk into the CompUSA B&M and show them copies oft your rebate documentation and they will pay you.

Also , as I stated in the original post in this thread, one of reasons that I did not post this deal on Sunday is that I wanted to verify the type of rebate offered since there was a discrepancy on the rebate form. I called the WD fulfillment center that actually funds this rebate program and verified that you will receive a $100 check directly from Western Digital and not a GC. If you are still worried, simply keep a copy of the CompUSA adverisement for this week and if you receive a GC, go to COmpUSA and tell them to cash it for you since they advertised a $100 cash rebate and not a GC. It is that simple!

Sweet! Thank you GETREAL. I went by BB last night and saw they had this drive for $200. Went across the street to CompUSA and found there advertised drive for $300 w/ $100 rebate (it is a rebate not a gift check) and took it up to the service desk. Did a price match to BB and the guy couldn't believe they were selling the same drive at that price w/o rebate. I went back over to the drive area to look for the rebate form and saw another dude looking at the same drive. I told him abou the hot PM with BB and he ended up doing the same thing.
I ended up waiting for 20 minutes while the CompUSA dude downloaded/printed the rebate form off of the CompUSA website for me and this other dude.
Great deal. Told my buddy about it this morning and he's going to try it out tonight.
Rebate good 12/1-12/8

GetReal : THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU !!! Scored two of these drives last night at two different CompUSAs (the nearest one had only one in stock, so I had to drive 10 more miles) ... and your scans made the whole thing piece of cake !!! None of the CSRs even bothered calling BB, although I had called BB earlier and made sure they have this in stock and the price was $199.97 !!!

240GB TiVo ... here I come

This was a truely great find, GetReal! I picked up the Sam's deal, which is still an awesome deal by the way. I was thinking about that 10% off at BestBuy. Is that good on Hard Drives? I know it would be much better to get the $100 rebate, but I just hate rebates and especially hate supporting CrapUSA. You could pick it up with no rebates and no hassle for $179.99. Just thought I'd throw it out there. I can't decide what I'm doing yet, but thank you!
