I did the deal, first bought one at Atwater, ca BB and then pm'd at Burbank Compusa. I was ther for over 50 minutes, 20 of them in the managers office as he tried to get the info from BB. By then they were sold out, but they said the last one sold a few minuts ago so the mngr okayed the deal.

If your compusa doesn't do the PM, take a few minutes and write compusa corp as well as your local DA.

Don't bother writing to your local CompUSA corporate office. I wrote a very polite letter of complaint to my regions director and she did not even send a short email or call me to acknowledge it. They don't care about you.

Compusa called best buy & was told BB price was $299. Compusa told me to get the shelf tag from BB & they would pricematch. Went to BB. Drive marked $299. Shelf tag read $199.97. Only one drive left on shelf!

I bought the drive, went to Compusa, where I was now told that they would not pricematch. BUT....after explaining what I had been through, based on his employees instructions, I was indeed given the pricematch! Now, what to do with the BB drive? Hmm...

<< 300 hits....blah >>

- I think what we need a scan of is either the Best Buy price tag or Best Buy receipt!!

well I tried to get the deal yesterday. Called BB and was informed that the price was $199.97 and that they had the drives in stock. Drove down to CompUSA, dumped the drive in my basket and proceeded to head to the counter. Yesterday was a bad day becuz all the managers seemed to be in the store and I was a little nervous that one of them was gonna say no. So I get a cashier and she makes the call to BB and they tell her they have none in stock. I couldn't believe that becuz it had only been like 15 min since I called BB. Gonna have to try again today.

I did it today at lunch at the Compusa in Fort Worth TX. Man was that manager an a$$. I had to stand toe to toe with the guy for 20 minutes before he would match the Best Buy price. And what else that hacked me off is that the rebate forms misteriously disappeared when I was leaving. Oh well, I guess I'll print the form off the net. But all and all it was worth getting this HD for $114.32 after tax and rebate

<< Western Digital drives are one of the best...
Very reliable..

<< Are any of the rumors I've heard about Western Digital hard drives being unreliable true? >>

>>

sure, they are one of the best: right after IBM, Maxtor, and Seagate. i've had two WD go down in the last month and they have THE WORST RMA system. their computer have been down for a week, but that doesn't explain why an RMA from October has not arrived yet. get a maxtor because they have the best RMA system--you get your drive within 3 days and THEN you send them your defective hard drive.

I 'tried' to get this deal to work at the Mt.Laurel, NJ CompUSA.
They will indeed pm to bestbuy but state they will VOID the $100 MIR.

So best I can do is 199 which while a reasonable price, (I paid 250 for an 18gb about 18mths ago) is not enough to entice me to purchase it.

Anyone know if CompUSA is blowing smoke?
Is it possible to still get the 100MIR?

<< Just went to Cr@pUSA waited 45 Mins to get a PM at BB. Manager said he can give me the drive for $199 without the UPC label. >>

Is that against the law? He probably wanted to get the rebate himself using your UPC.

Anyway, has anyone ever PM'd using Amex Blue on something that has a mail in rebate? How would they know there's a rebate? Maybe they just mean no instant rebates?

1. I'm going to use Amex best value guarentee on this instead. If CompUSA give me money back when I tell 'em BB has 'em for less, I may wind up with a free 120GB drive!

2. A guy at Best Buy told me CompUSA has filed for Chapter 11. Anyone else heard or can verify that?

Very doubtful that they filed for chapter 11

You don't need the UPC for the rebate, only the capacity label.

How does one "void" the rebate? Unless he reprograms the cashier's computer to enter "NOT VALID FOR REBATE" or something, it's not possible.

News from St Louis, MO:

My friend tried yesterday, got the $199 pricematch at the ballwin compusa, just before they closed, and apparently they had 2 left. He used the CompUSA receipt scan that Karsten posted, and they accepted it no questions asked. I borrowed his receipt he got last night, as documentation of the deal.

Woke up this morning and checked compusa.com's availability -- reported that the ballwin store was sold out, and the maryland heights store was the only one that had it (out of 4 or 5 stores in town). Went there first, to find 3 disks on the shelf, but the manager refused to pricematch, as he said that compusa matches BB via the $100 mailin rebate. This was DESPITE the fact I showed him an original compusa receipt, from a store 7 miles away, with $199 plainly printed it. They also said that they had people in the day before who tried the same thing, and they refused pricematching.

Out of curiosity I drove back to the ballwin store, which supposedly was "out of stock" -- they had one left, hidden in the display case, with a sign halfway obscuring the disk package. Showed him my friend's receipt from same store night before, and they happily went and gave me the deal.

Basically I guess since the one store that has stock refuses to pricematch, I guess that means I was the last one in St Louis to succeed at getting the deal

Who wants to take bets on whether or not they honor the rebate, though?

Ok, what is the chance of the rebate center looking at our receipts and seeing that we paid $200 for it and not sending us the check?

Probably about 0. Nowhere on the rebate does it mention any limit on the purchase price. They cannot legally deny the rebate just because you purchased it for $200. Also, someone earlier in the thread said they called and asked, and the CSR told him that the purchase price is not a deciding factor in whether or not you get the rebate.

So what...? It doesn't state anywhere on the receipt what the price has to cost to receive the rebate!
Just be smart and make copies of everything and for god's sake spend the extra couple pennys and send it in with delivery confirmatin!

(My problem is usualy to remember where I put the delivery confirmation thing )

Does anyone know if $257 was compusa's actual cost for this disk (like a few people here had said)?

I'd love it if compusa was basically paying me to take that thing off their hands.
