Yeap... I saw the 257$ figure on the Computer. That is cost for CompUSA. So they will be paying us roughly 157$ after everything is said and done

News from St Louis, MO:

Woke up this morning and checked compusa.com's availability -- reported that the ballwin store was sold out, and the maryland heights store was the only one that had it (out of 4 or 5 stores in town). Went there first, to find 3 disks on the shelf, but the manager refused to pricematch, as he said that compusa matches BB via the $100 mailin rebate. This was DESPITE the fact I showed him an original compusa receipt, from a store 7 miles away, with $199 plainly printed it. They also said that they had people in the day before who tried the same thing, and they refused pricematching.

that would have been me oops, could've saved you the trip. the worst thing about that experience was that they made me stand there for FOURTY FIVE minutes, with my 1 year old daughter, while they tried to get best buy on the phone, and then when they finally did get the confirmation, THEN they decided to tell me they wouldn't match anyway. Grrrr....

Based on that experience I'm pretty sure I was the first one there -- this was tuesday morning, right after they opened.

Best Buy and CompUSA....My #1 & #2 most-hated stores! I decided to pass on this deal, and go buy a 3-DVD player instead of dealing with the PM hassle. You'd think that with all the people reading/lurking on this forum, and getting denied by CUSA staff in direct conflict with their stated policy, that more than a few people in upper management haven't gotten email/telephone calls.
For more of you die-hard deal-seekers out there, may I offer another off-the-wall suggestion? Get the press involved.... There are many TV news programs with "fraud hunter" type portions of their show. The local newspaper might be interested in this as well. God knows...The media loves a scandal. Exceptionally so, when it's a corporation. Just my random thoughts on this late night.

I'm not really in to this enough to actually act upon it, but is this actually fraud or some technicality in their policy. It seems to me that if a company says they will MATCH a competitors price, they would HAVE to, even if it cost them money. So in essence that would make their policy untrue. I can't find it in print anywhere so there may be some small print saying "we can revoke at any point" but still. I'm just curious if anyone can shed some light?

Here's what CompUSA enumerates as their price match policy:

<< CompUSA?s Retail Store Low Price Guarantee.
*We'll beat any legitimate price from any local authorized retail store on every product we sell, either at the time of purchase or within the following 14 days. Our low price guarantee pertains to all new, factory-sealed products of the same brand and model number that are available and in-stock at any local authorized retail store. Our guarantee does not apply to competitors' one-of-a-kind or other limited-quantity offers, special financing, installation, online competitors, rebates or when a bonus or free offer is included in the purchase. *Some restrictions apply.
*Training Classes: Training class pricing may vary in Hawaii. Contact local store for details.
>>

Nowhere on the page do they mention what the restrictions are (unless it's only the training class thing).
It's also unclear (prolly intentional) as to what happens when there is a rebate. Essentially it means what
they want it to mean.

And to put this into perspective, I doubt you'd get a TV station to bite on this. Hardware geeks aren't photogenic
enough, nobody cares that you didn't get the drive for $150 below ChumpUSA's cost, and there are much more
tear-jerking heart-wrenching stories out there...

A lot of places take mail-in rebates into account for PM considerations. I like hot deals just as much as the next geek, but there's nothing to moan about here.

here's my 2 cents on how consumers lose out as an individual in a price battle against a corporation:

the general manager in my local store last night told me he has notified all managers in all stores in san diego (there's 5 or 6 of them) about this so none of them will pm.

other things he said i found amusing:

"i will not tolerate people like you cheating my company" - cheat? i even mentioned the rebate first as my reason for a pm
"i will protect my store" - uhh, i thot the price protection was for buyers, no?
"our rebate is a price match to best buy's" - straight lie
"best buy's price is an instant rebate" - straight lie
"i won't sell because we lose money on this" - ok now you're just being a jerk
"i've had 4 guys in last couple days come in try to price match and i think you all work together" - now do we or don't we? lol

bottom line: compusa hire some of the most unprofessional and arrogant people in their stores, as a result, we do not have any options if they decided to be an (__.__).

i think i'm just gonna go and get the drive. if i can't get compusa to pricematch, i'll use amex pricematch. the price will still end up being $99. just make sure to go over to bestbuy and grab a floor price tag before they take it away this week. also make sure to call amex pricematch as soon as possible before bestbuy changes price next week.

i dont see why this is impossible, BB had that 99.95 60g WD with 50 bucks rebate after thanksgiving. only a lucky few and on the worst day of all, busy day. they like to pull this crap to get as many people as possible. that's dirty saleman right their for you folks. I expected they have at least 100 per store but instead they had only a few say 5-6 that they were going to rid of anyway. alot of people would be happy if they had more then enough to satisfy everyone, but hell BB and COMPUSA are all the same evil people. anyway i am fed up with rebates, first make you pay inflated prices then 10-30 bucks rebate for something that you can get online for the same prices after rebate. tricky business practices.

I would buy it from outpost.com, get the rebate, and PM w/ Amex to Best Buy, but:

1. The item description (in my cart) on outpost mentions the rebate, unless it doesn't once you check out? Or maybe there's somewhere else that doesn't show the rebate on the receipt?
2. Even if there were no #1, I'm not sure if Amex will price match with a rebate (can they find out?)
3. BB.com shows $299 for the HDD, so could I send them a copy of some of the receipts or shelf tag that were posted?

i tried at the buffalo, ny cusa, and the sales manager flat refused to do the match, becasue he spoke to the manager at bb, who told him that the price was 299, even though i went to best buy myself, and got a price verification printed out that plainly said otherwise. im gonna try again tomorrow when his manager is in the store.

2 things. First, I got denied at the Lansing MI store. The manager of it was the one that grabbed the drive from me and when I mentioned the price match he said ?it?s come down from corporate that we can?t sell it at that price.? He gave me a business card with his info and a corporate phone # on it. :|

Secondly, does anybody have a scan of a successfully price matched receipt from CompUSA?

HEADS UP. It 'seems' that the HD's are BACK IN STOCK in the Franklin Mills Philadelphia CompUSA.

Did a search on the compusa website that shows that locationto have them in stock. I dont feel like going back though.
I figure in a couple months the 160gb will be out. (btw Maxtor's 160's ARE already out)

Anyone able to utilize this post. I want a thumbs up.

It seems to me like a good deal to get this 120gb drive at bestbuy for the $200, since compusa was out of stock during the rebate period. But is the price still 200 at bestbuys? I just tried calling them and they put me on hold for like half an hour before I gave up. It doesn't make sense to drive 30 miles or whatever just to find out they are out of stock or the price is 300.

A VERY well deserved bump for a VERY VERY HOT DEAL.

I got it from Compusa for 199 bucks-- I just typed in all I had to go through at the store and realized it was pretty stupid so just forget that.. lets just say the manager wasnt happy AT ALL with giving it to me at that price.. blah blah took an hour blah...

Anyways, checked my email and just got confirmation that Western Digital is honoring my rebate and I should have a check in 6-8 weeks...

This is to all that got in on it.. .check your email -- you should have the confirmation already or pretty soon...

Thank you so much for a wonderfully flaming deal...
