<< BVG: Yeah, ure missing one thing-- a brain. As said earlier, DONT F*CKING PM THE MOMENT YOU BUY THE PRODUCT. Jeez. Always wait -- this not only allows them to NOT get a thousand calls on one product at once , but also lets the prices drop some. Confirm the next day, they will tell you if they got your fax. That reminds me, i have to go call and PM my amd 1900+ purchased on feb 4th. $219-$155=$64. Good things come to those who wait. >>

You're missing something too.. The BVG is over at the end of the month. You probably know that though. I certainly would've waited to submit my claim if it wasn't. It's not like I'm screwing anything up for anyone because the deal is already going away probably because plenty of others before me have done this very same thing. Geez.. Edealinfo.com advertised the crap out of this card because of the BVG. Do you think AMEX will have second thoughts on getting rid of the BVG if I wait a couple of weeks before I submit my claim?

Besides, $113 is cheap for this drive and if I do get approved and get the rebate, I'll be plenty happy with $38 + $5 shipping for this drive. The reason behind me submitting it so quickly is because I want to know if I'm going to be approved for this and if I'm not, I'll be returning the drive. Hopefully, I'll get an approval before the 14 days are up on when I can send in the MIR. If I don't get the price match, it's just an average deal at best and not really worth keeping.

BTW.. I'd love to get in on what you did with the XP chip. I'm about to buy an XP 1900+ myself. I just wish I had the luxery of waiting 60 days for the price to drop on it before submitting my claim. I was a little late getting my card though.

Sal

PS.. I'd better not wait until the very last day to submit my claim on the chip I'm going to buy. I might be SOL trying to get through to a AMEX rep because I'm guessing that they'll be loaded up with last minute BVG's.

Why can't you at least wait until 4/5 the rebate expires? You are only ringing them the bell to look at the rebate.
The rebate due is only 10days left. Very likely you will not know if your claims is approved or not by then.

Got the drive. Can't find a refurb sticker anywhere. Where is it supposed to be?

Mine is back ordered as well. Outpost sent me an email and I called to see what was going on. It seems they've unexpectedly received refurbs mixed in with their normal shipment. All sales fulfillments for this product are on hold until they straighten things out with their vendor. The CS reassured me that the orders will NOT be fulfilled with refurbs, however, the MIR situation has not been 'adjusted' for this yet. The CS told me that most likely the rebate will be extended or the price of the drive will be dropped and to call back by Friday 4/5 to see what's going on.

To anyone who has successfully set this drive up:
Question:
I got the parts for my new system last night and began putting it together. No problem, before I knew it I was installing XP. Now, here's the issue: I didn't run the EZ utility that came with the WD HDD before starting my XP install, so it's not bootable. It copies all the XP files from the CD and then reboots to nothing. My BIOS says it can't find the primary master IDE drive (which the HDD is connected as). The drive was partitioned into four equal sizes, but I can't run fdisk to get rid of what I did since the BIOS doesn't know it's there.
How can I make this drive bootable now? I tried booting from my Win98 CD, and that works, but it still doesn't recognize the HDD.
Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Edit:
Nevermind, I have it set as Master instead of Single. Doh!

The BVG is not up on all cards, you can still get anpther Amex that is keeping the BVG.

Just because BLUE stops carrying the BVG does not mean the end of the world.

I know that, but it's up on this card and that's what I used to purchase this hard drive. What good would another AMEX card do me on this purchase?

Besides, I was over at the f*twallet forum checking out their thread and someone talked about contacting a CSR at AMEX 2 days prior to me filing a claim and the person said that the CSR told them that this particular CSR had done a ton of these hard drive BVG's the very same day. So.. It doesn't look like I'm alone in not waiting 2 weeks to file a claim. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if more people that said they are going to wait haven't already filed their claims as well.

Anyway..

I just talked to a supervisor at Outpost who I have been in regular contact with about this issue. She said that the rebate would be honored by WD for a refurbished HD, the 3 year warranty was still valid and that I had three choices about keeping the drive. 1.) Receive a $30 from Outpost for buying a refurb.
2.) Send the refurb back and receive a new (april 10th they expect a shipment) or 3) Just send it back.
I have not decided what to do yet but $8 for this drive is sweet.

I just looked at this drive on their website, it says call for availablity. Just for the heck of it I hit add it to cart and it came up 179 instead of 199? Did they lower the price or is this a mistake on their parts or is this because of the refurb problem?
What's going to happen if the drives don't arrive within 2 weeks, you lose the rebate?

I just called Outpost and asked about the status of my order (i ordered it at around 1am today EST) - the CSR said that they expect to ship April 10th... I asked her if it still qualifies for the rebate, she said NO. If you guys get it, this is flamin'. Maybe i just got a crappy CSR, but i cancelled my order... not worth the hassel with blue and what not. Good luck

I cant seem to find anything even on outposts.com website that says receipt. Please, someone help!

Just weighing in ... my drive arrived yesterday and appears to be new, not refurbished. No sticker on the drive, packaging looks pristine.

I talked to Western Digital yesterday and they said they would mail me out a new drive and are sending me prepaid slip to send back the refurb. Someone at FW said they received there replacement yesterday from Western Digital and it is a BARE drive. Will it be impossible to get rebate from Bare drive?

Yeah, just make a copy of the packing list from your package, I've always
used that for the rebates.
As for the AMEX pricematch, they should honor this deal, remember just
several weeks ago they were swamped with pricematches on that Visioneer
8100 scanner deal at Staples, which had a $70 rebate. Everybody I know
got both the $70 rebate and the $20 check from AMEX, thereby actually
making about $5 on the deal!

Here's my experience:

Ordered drive last Friday with Next Day shipping....arrived Saturday.
I installed it and set everything up and all my software.
Then all this fuss started about people getting sent refurb drives....so I took it out and had a look - it's a REFURB. I did not even think to check it before as it was sealed in a retail box.

So I called up Outpost. The CSR said I could send it back for a refund. I explained that I had already set it up and installed all my system files, so returning it was not an option.
She asked what I wanted to do.....I told her that I did not think I should be paying full retail price for a refurbished drive. So she said she would have a supervisor call me to see if they could give me a discount.
24 hours later no call, so I call again.

This CSR says that they have been instructed to issue a $25 credit to all those who got the refurb drive....so we will get $100 back after their credit and the rebate.
I asked "so the rebate will still be valid seeing as this is a refurb", be said "Yes absolutely"

Anyone know if AMEX will bitch and moan about the $25 credit on the BVG? Will they deduct that from the diff?

guess i should clarify my above post. what i was asking about was if the rebate window would be extended because of the delays related to the mixing of refurb and retail drives.

Did anyone read the information regarding someone at WD handling replacements on this drive if you got a refurbished drive? That's what I would do.

Ordered a drive on Tuesday, got the backorder notice a few days later, emailed back cancelling it. If the deal is still possible after backorder delays, though, it's worth a shot...I'll definitely be calling tomorrow.
