I saw one post where someone claimed to have gotten the BVG. Has anyone else?

Talked to an Outpost CSR and the deal is on from their end. The new rebate certificate hasn't been posted yet (still links to the old PDF) but the text says 4/12 and he confirmed that a new PDF is going up shortly and/or can be emailed to you upon request.

Now to just find 5 or 10 good friends from different "households..."

Sweeet, sweet Gummy de Milo, er, I mean sweeet sweeet deal. Just ordered from Fry's Outpost over the phone -- web site form was mucking up. The employee emailed me the new extended rebate (extends past 4/4). Just looked at a couple of the other sites, and see that they are OEM.. has anyone tried PMing Amex with the OEM stuff? I am going to look for a non-OEM price to match.

I am new to all this hotdeals stuff and I believe that I may have slept approximately 2.3 hours in the past week or 2! ;-)

I cancelled my original order from when this was first posted; glad I didn't get involved in that mess.

I finally decided to re-order this drive this past Saturday afternoon. I was told there was no definite date for more drives to come in. Winston said that they don't give backorder info anymore (i.e.: number of orders sold but not filled). My package went out by Ground yesterday. Got my new drive today from Outpost's new batch. Shows a manufacture date sticker of March 26, 2002...that's fresher than most of the produce in my local market :Q Verified the warranty on WD's site - it ends 5/4/2005.

I did the same - cancelled the order last week after it went out of stock, then ordered again this week once the new rebate was confirmed. It's shipped and is on its way already -- w00t -- just need to get them to email me the PDF (their link still goes to the old one).

Anyone know how stringent the "one per household" rule is? Would be no problem to have them delivered to a friend or 10, but would they need to be on different CC's? (Problematic since I doubt many have AMEX...)

Grumble grumble grumble...
I got my drive a while ago, but have been in no rush to install it. So I open it yesterday and notice the Refurb sticker on it. It says (refurbished) next to the serial number. Outpost says that if I call them between 9-5 they will tell me what they will do. So I'll be doing that today.
I also discovered when I opened it that it has the wrong type of connection. That's what I get for impulsively jumping on a bargain I guess.
Anyhoo... I called Amex to PM and they sounded like it was a go. I faxed them my stuff on the 9th, so hopefully the check in in the mail.

Got the BVG check last week. No hassles at all. Now I just gotta hope the rebate goes through.

Outpost just called me. It has a letter from WD explaining that some drives were incorrectly labeled as refurbs, but they are new. Outpost is sending me a copy of the letter.

On a separate note, I find it hard to believe anyone would sell one of these to any of you offering $65. If someone were interested in selling, he/she could easily get at least $100 on ebay. There's no reason to accept less than that.

Ok I've concluded that Outpost.com employees are idiots (excluding any possible present company, of course;-) .. They have screwed up several times tonight alone. Since they initially (and erroneously) sent me the 60GB and charged me for the 60GB as well, my receipt reflects that..when they corrected it by sending me the 80GB, my receipt said purchase date 4/15..so then I was told they'd fax me a receipt with the ORIGINAL purchase date ... the first woman I spoke to this evening laughed when I told her and literally called the other employee an idiot, and said he was just fired... but then she faxed me the wrong receipt... 10 minutes ago a guy there told me that the updated rebate form is linked on the site..alas it expired 4/4. That must have been bongwater I heard gurgling in the background at Outpost...

I didn't go thru all four pages of comments, but did anybody see that the rebate says:

Buy a Western Digital 80 GB 7200 RPM from Output.comand get $75 rebate.

Kinda makes me wonder.

..and I repeat, Outpost employees are dolts. I have placed far too many calls to them to try to straighten out ONE SIMPLE PURCHASE. Apparently, the first few employees completely mislead me (one employee referred to her former colleague as "an idiot"). There is no updated rebate form that would cover purchase on 4/15 (which is when they put in my order for the 80GB, despite the fact that I ordered it on 4/10..those fools just put inthe order for the 60gb then).
So today I spoke to Patrick, who told me that I'd have to return the 80GB drive (I haven't opened it yet anyhow) and REORDER yet again, so I could qualify for the newest WD rebate, beginning today. At least he apologized several times for all this hassle.
Well, I just called the AMEX BVG automated status check, and it says they've cut me a check for $73.95. Am I obligated to attempt yet again to purchase this drive from the Outpost--AMEX will see that the drive was returned..but probably a separate dept, no? Any ethical qualm with me keeping the BVG check and cutting my losses with the Outpost? I took advantage of the Dell 120GB drive deal last week, so should have that shortly.

thanks
