I think they PMed to pcbuyers club in the BB deal earlier this month. I didn't get one then, but I had bought one at the Omax deal in January (used a $40 Staples coupon, $75 rebate, and I just got my check from Amex for $32 - $62 after tax) and when I called Amex and wanted the BVG on the drive, they said PCBuyers Club? I said , no, Dell, but the rep mentioned everyone was calling in for the BB BVG to pcbuyers club within a day of purchase (and we wonder why BVG is going).

Instead of you guys getting so da#@ nervous and doing the BVG right away, why don't you wait at least a few weeks? The price might even go down. The people at Amex are not stupid. When you call to get the BVG the day after you purchased the drive, the Amex folks know right away what is going on.

BTW, I just got one, RAID here I come!

This is so hot.
For me, they "Best Value Guaranteed" to House of Computers on an OEM drive for $115 a few days ago, from one I purchased at BB at the end of January. This drive also had a $75 rebate which I have already received. To add insult to injury, the week after I bought the drive at BB, they offered a deal that when you buy this drive, you receive $50 in free DVD's. I went back to BB, they did a return & re-buy for me, and for $6.00, I left with $56.00 in DVD's.

My total cost after tax, rebate & BVG, about $50. I'm not sure if I got a $50 drive & free DVD's, or if I bought $50 in DVD's, & got a free drive?
LOL

BTW, I am reading all this info about the Best Value Guarantee from AE coming to an end. I use the American Express Optima Card, & they tell me that they have no plans to discontinue this benefit.
That is what they told me. Obviously, ymmv.

But for those of you whose benefit will be ending, I suggest you heed "marill999" and get in on this deal while you can.

And jTek is right about waiting. It is to your advantage to wait, as it is pretty obvious that the price of hard drives and MOST other computer peripherals is almost always going down as time passes. Besides, if the csr's do their job correctly, they will tell you since BB has a 30 day pricematch policy, they are not supposed to BVG until after the 30 days is up (as has been posted elsewhere). Sometimes they enforce this, sometimes they don't.

So Dukati, you're saying that you pricematched an OEM drive to a retail drive? How different is that from the grey market Canon G2 pricematch fraud mentioned at the top of the Hot Deals threads?

I appreciate your concern, but it's too late, word's out. And I doubt anyone will show any restraint on this since we all know the BVG program is dead in 4 weeks. I did this deal a few minutes ago, and when I told the AMEX rep the claim was for a hard drive, he said, "Western Digital?" They're getting lots of calls already.

When I called AMEX to use the BVG, I called with information on a retail drive pricematch that I was going to do for $149.99 at circuit city. The AMEX rep asked me why I was using the BVG this way, when he has seen people using it to PM the drive for lower than $120.:Q

HIS suggestion to me was that I search the internet and find the lowest price on this drive that I could, print out the page, making sure that it was dated, and then call him back. I asked him about OEM vs Retail, and he specifically told me it does not matter. As long as the part number contained WD800BB, I was all set. When I called back, I asked for him, and he took care of me wonderfully.

And btw, the oem & the retail drive were the same drive, just no box & cable on the oem. Both with 3 year warranty. Grey market items DO NOT have to be the same item as those meant for our market. I did not read the thread on the camera, but I used to sell auto parts and that gives me my own perspective on "What is Grey market"?

At least as concerns automobiles, a grey market model vs a US market model can be like night & day! When the guy comes in looking for parts for his grey market Mercedes, you automatically know that it may bear almost no resemblence to the corresponding US model. Different body, engine, exhaust, etc. etc. etc......... Plus, Grey market autos must usually have extensive work performed on them just in order to meet emission requirements for the US market! I remember ordering a fender for an Audi, only to find out later that it was a grey market vehicle, & the fender was so different, it wouldn't even mount on the car.:disgust:

I do not know if it is the same for a camera. If a part breaks on the grey market model, is it the same as on the US version? Is the warranty the same? Maybe it really is the same as the US market equivalent, I can only relate to my experience with cars. As I said, I did not read the thread on the camera. But I did notice that it got locked! :Q

And a special thanks to the nice AMEX csr who helped me save an extra $44.99.

So correct me if I am wrong, but total after rebate and pricematch with tax and shipping = $62.76

I suppose that's still way better than $113.00, but still...it's NOT $38.00
