People, people.
Getting one of these refurbed and a new one is almost the same. They will still carry the same warranty. Matter of fact, if you contact the manufacture, they will most likely give you another refurbed anyways, at least that's what almost all of their RMA'd hard drives are.
Most likely, the "refurbed" drives are working perfectly fine and probably had a defective PCB or something like a bad chip or bad memory/cache on the PCB. That was caught during QA check. So it may be better to have a refurbed cuz it actually was a problem that was found out during QA.
When problems occur, "refurbed" items often go through much more QA Testing than "new" items.
This drive shouldn't be a problem with most people in the "know" or understand the manufacturing business. The average "Joe" will probably freak out and demand a "new" drive. Or for a peace of mind, if you will call it that, get a RMA from WD for a "new" drive.
