listening to Armin Van Buuren on HD-212 pro...bass is great...
what settings and player you using for trance?

anyone had proble putting this into the mobo.. i had to remove my sound card metal plate to make it go all they way..otherwise the card was not completly going inside the pci slot..?

Well, when I first got the card in, I didn't bother with the CD at all...I just loaded the web drivers only. All they install is the driver and the barebones control panel...

After they were loaded, if I did anything like play an MP3, the sound would play for 4 seconds...stop for 4...play for 4...and general windows use would get choppy. I uninstalled everything...well as best I could. After you install those, they just put an uninstall in the Add/Remove dialog for the CP, not the drivers. After you reboot you still have the X-Fi listed in the Device Manager. At that point, I uninstalled it from the DM, ran the install from the CD...drivers and apps, and all was fine. After my last post, I installed the latest drivers over the ones that were installed from the CD, and they are working fine now.

IMO...it's been common for Creative drivers to have these strange sort of issues, which is a reason I've stayed away from them so long...

Anyway...all is working now..and I've been listening to some trance on the HD280's, as well as some Q4 on the 8.2 Klipsch setup...sounds amazing...

I don't want to buy the X-Fi because I'd lose Firewire. Seems like I'd gain nothing other than EAX5 in BF2.

Hey,
So where can you get the X-Fi software for the Audigy?

ok heres a quick low down on the upgrade
installation was as usual no issues had to install the creative media source program in order to get the 5.1 working on my logitech z5500s

as for music yes there is a noticeable difference when the 24 bit crystalizer and cmss-3d are turned on
volume and clarity are much better
if there was a way to upgrade the software on the audigy2 zs to the xfi software i could do a more thorough test
the bass redirection function didnt really work too well, reduced bass way too much so i basically turned that off

played with the settings a bit more and with 4 bars of volume on the z5500s my house was shaking
huge difference, i have to say this was a good investment

Just download it from Creative site. Then, manually decompress it and look inside the /src/driver folder. Use the setup.exe and the driver will be installed.

Personally, I don't notice any improvement than what is originally there for A2zs.
The driver's ability to regconize the Audigy card seems to indicate that Creative is sharing the driver code base.

I bought mine a couple of months ago and the capacitor on my card was mounted the same way. I thought I had a dud as well.

Installation

1) Run the X-Fi cd and select "minimal" install which is bascially the drivers, all of the panels, system info, and the diag tool. You'll get all of the individual panel adjustments. You bypass the rest of the bloatware. Reboot.

2) Install the new 2.09.0001 driver

3) The X-Fi Mode Changer is a very useful tool that can switch modes when you launch a particular application.

That would be the one if only it supported higher than EAX 2.0. So as a gaming card it is not the best, for playing movies it is

X-Fi supports EAX 5.0

I just want to share this with all of you guys. I have the Audigy 2 retail and I just installed the X-Fi drivers alone and the sounds is so much better on my Audigy 2. Though it still says Audigy 2 under Windows XP Pro, the sound is significantly improve. I have the Logitech X-530 5.1 and the bass and treble are so much more and clearer and even at high volume distortions are minimal.
This could be the fact that CL has improved more so on the soft than hardware.
Anyone knows where I can download the full X-Fi software CD so I can experiment more to see if I can get the console for the X-Fi to install on my Audigy 2? As of right now, the software won't let me install the console.
Thanks.
PS: The improvement in just the software alone is amazing guys. Try this before upgrading. Remember a decent set of speakers would be needed to see the improvement.
