Well, when I first got the card in, I didn't bother with the CD at all...I just loaded the web drivers only. All they install is the driver and the barebones control panel...
After they were loaded, if I did anything like play an MP3, the sound would play for 4 seconds...stop for 4...play for 4...and general windows use would get choppy. I uninstalled everything...well as best I could. After you install those, they just put an uninstall in the Add/Remove dialog for the CP, not the drivers. After you reboot you still have the X-Fi listed in the Device Manager. At that point, I uninstalled it from the DM, ran the install from the CD...drivers and apps, and all was fine. After my last post, I installed the latest drivers over the ones that were installed from the CD, and they are working fine now.
IMO...it's been common for Creative drivers to have these strange sort of issues, which is a reason I've stayed away from them so long...
Anyway...all is working now..and I've been listening to some trance on the HD280's, as well as some Q4 on the 8.2 Klipsch setup...sounds amazing...
