good deal, im ready to pull the trigger however i saw at the last minute that winxp SP2 is the only OS supported, and is required.

does anyone have this and can confirm that it works without SP2?

i know how finicky creative products are about that kind of stuff, there is no way youre gonna get me off of my SP1

Why are you so adamant about staying SP1?

SP2 is CRAP

too bad MS is ending SP1 support and forcing SP2 in order to get security fixes.

i dislike all of the crap and bloat it brought, of course this is my view of SP2 when it just came out, me and a friend had bugs with it, and he ended up reformatting and putting SP1 just like before again.

i might have to give it a try one day, but thats just SP2's impression on me.

I am somewhat in the same boat. I have never seen a reason to go to SP2. My PC is pretty secure and have yet to have a problem with it as of yet with SP1.

Sp1 powa~

Awesome deal and hopefully it does work with SP1. If so, hot, hot.

Can someone please confirm if this sound card works fine with Windows XP MCE version? I have MCE with SB Live and Klipse Promedia 2.1, is there going to be big improvement on music? I don't play games, so music is my main thing.

I might buy one, I still see no need for sound cards to cost so much, but this is a great price.

The Audigy LS is not actually a real Audigy card, since it does not use a EMU10k chip. You would notice some CPU usage improvement for sure, but any difference in music quality is highly depending on your equipment.

The same driver is shown if you select MCE or regular XP from http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/welcome.asp?action=next so I would assume it does not care about MCE.

If you are still running a Live (I am too), check out the kX driver. Your Klipschs should be able to reveal the improved quality from that driver. Give it a try before switching sound cards.

Just got mine from Newegg. The box was smashed by UPS...of course. The X-Fi's box didn't seem damaged, and the card was a newer revision for those with NF4's. The digits in the serial number that need to be higher than 541 were 612, and the card has a HS on the X-Fi chip. However, the card looks to be a return because the internals looked repackaged, but the card looks brand new so I'm going to try it before I call Newegg and complain...

Also, those who still use SP1...you think SP2 is bloated? What exactly makes it bloated? I make custom XP install CD's and I wouldn't dream of using pre SP2...but hey..that's just me. I guess I don't understand the resistance to it...

You can use the latest X-Fi drivers even on the 1st Audigy. Works fine for me, and the control panel aplet works too.

I don't want to buy the X-Fi because I'd lose Firewire. Seems like I'd gain nothing other than EAX5 in BF2.

Mine also seems to be a newer revision refurb. The static bag had been cut open and never re-sealed. Also the dummy who repacked it bent the large capacitor next to the HS nearly 90 degrees. I think Creative unloaded a warehouse full of returns on us, but I don't mind if it works at this price. I was also pleased they included color coded stickers to put on the gold backplane.

I have a question about sounds cards like this, related to headphones.

I was looking at a pair of headphones on Newegg, and the connector came in both your standard 3.5mm and also USB. One of the selling features of the headphones was the USB connector -- "Convenient USB connection available, no sound card needed!"

Help me understand this. If I got this sound card, and used those headphones with the USB connection, the headphones don't even use the sound card if I read that correctly. Would it sound completely different (and better, I would hope) if I used those same headphones with the 3.5mm connection, and did plug it right into this sound card?

Well I thought that bent capacitor was a shipping issue..I straightened mine and I got mine from Compusa when it was $80 AR(I had a gift card to use)

so I guess it supposed to be this way???

My capicitor came standing straight up...but it seems like it's mounted wrong. Usually capacitors are mounted with their base flush to the PCB surface...look at most motherboards. It's strange they mounted it with it having a large gap between it and the PCB surface, which allows it to be bent easily.

Well, got mine in the NF4 system tonight...and so far, it seems Creative's driver are still as bad as I remember them. I ignored the CD first off and just got the updated ones of the thier site, but after I loaded them..it would not work right. The sound would start and stop in like 4 second delays. I had to uninstall it, then install the stuff on the CD..which appears to be working ok so far...

It's kinda annoying that Creative has such a good product in these cards, but seems unwilling to make drivers to the same level....I guess when you have no real competition. :\

my drivers worked perfectly, no hissing sound yet...but the problem is that I could not make it fit,so i had to take the plate off from the sound card to make it all they way go in..i did not a base in my casing..thats why its no fitting ? .

With new drivers and new revision this card sounds much better then I tested back in Feb

Well, when I first got the card in, I didn't bother with the CD at all...I just loaded the web drivers only. All they install is the driver and the barebones control panel...

After they were loaded, if I did anything like play an MP3, the sound would play for 4 seconds...stop for 4...play for 4...and general windows use would get choppy. I uninstalled everything...well as best I could. After you install those, they just put an uninstall in the Add/Remove dialog for the CP, not the drivers. After you reboot you still have the X-Fi listed in the Device Manager. At that point, I uninstalled it from the DM, ran the install from the CD...drivers and apps, and all was fine. After my last post, I installed the latest drivers over the ones that were installed from the CD, and they are working fine now.

IMO...it's been common for Creative drivers to have these strange sort of issues, which is a reason I've stayed away from them so long...

Anyway...all is working now..and I've been listening to some trance on the HD280's, as well as some Q4 on the 8.2 Klipsch setup...sounds amazing...
