If they can make the XBOX become a progressive scan DVD player and they allow it to play DivX then it will be interesting. The playing imported games and DVDs is also nice. The other features are ethically-debatable at best.

Damn, sorry about the double post.

Does anyone know if this thing will let you play dvds on the xbox without buying microsoft's DVD playback kit?

As opposed to all the other mods, you'd have to tear apart the entire top of the unit just to get a standard CD in it
That's what hole-saws are for, silly!

have a feeling this will be locked... aren't modchip posts not allowed here?

i guess halik has a disclaimer for the mods..

"the chip lets you more than just play backup games and you can't duplicate the games your self (xbox dvds spins backwards and from outside in)"

so we'll see how it goes

actually i am. they can both be used for evil as well as good if someone wants to make xbox software or movie players.. well thats good. if someone wants to be a lame pirate, that bad. like anything, its got both sides

now take something like a hand grenade. now thats a clear case of bad for civilians atleast. no way your using a hand grenade for self defense

i mean whats wrong with wanting to design new bikinis for these girls

you really want to get into this? fine...

i had asked if it modchips weren't allowed, begging a yes or no answer... instead, you gave me a why. thats what i was wondering myself.

then you said that by that logic (i hadn't committed any logic to text in my post) cd burners would be banned outright. umm... sorry, but a staple piece of computer hardware wouldn't, as opposed to a chip which caters to a very narrow group.

next, if they can be used for both good and evil (like most things in life) then they still aren't equivalent... sorry to disrupt your twisted logic, but it would mean that they are similar but not equivalent.

you want to talk about hand grenades? how about we get some war experience first before we start talking like we know about it.. "9-11-01 Infidels Unite!" suuuureee....

i dont' want to hazard a guess to see what your other 5k posts are like. oh, and have fun with you DOA vball pics. i'm going to watch the lakers game.

the reason for my first post was because i posted in OT wondering if there were any modchips for the ps2 and it got shot down as being against forum rules. so, i just wanted to give a heads up here. if you can't sense curiousity in "i have a feeling this will be locked... aren't modchip posts not allowed here? " then i guess i'll retake my upper div. english class.

Hello all,

Today I opened my xbox just for the fun of it. Looking at the diagrams for the modchip installation guide. installing the mod chip will be a b**ch the places you solider is about the size of a *.

The size again is this *.
Second of all I will not recommend it i don't know why i ordered the chip from Hong Kong its coming I don't know what to do with it. I will not modify my xbox because I won't be able to do it. Its very hard and you have to solider the right place you will have a hack of time trying to find the points to solider. And 29 wires need to be solider to the size of * wont be easy...

Good luck to anyone trying this, bs

who stuck a stick up your bum today?

actually many people say "i have a feeling this will be locked in threads that REALLY do deserve to be locked. so no, you weren't really conveying a real sense of curiosity.

heheheheeh....that's my favorite part of the specs.

Do you have ANY idea how many wires that is???? NO WAY are people going to be able to do this.

*cough* Messiah *cough*

I've been reading up on the mod chips since I heard the news, and the Messiah does all of the above with 11 wires. At least, that is the impression that I get.

The problem with Modding the game cube is the fact it uses those 1/2 size dvd's. So it probably isn' t modded cause they don' t have the media to copy games over readily available.

People WILL be able to do this. I can do this with my eyes open. Anyways, If I can solder small little capacitors and resistor packs on a DIMM, I can do this.

Plus, if you look at the B&W diagram of the mod chip board, you'll see it's 29 wires to wire PLUS the 29 on the xbox itself. Total soldering points is 58 places! What great fun!

Also remember dudes, you'll require a DVD burner to use these chips. Unless you cut out parts of the game or downsample the movies or sound, it won't fit on a CD. It shouldn't be a problem for the crackers but if the game is a few gigs in size, it's hard to find out what to cut out!

Don't be suckered into these high priced novelties! Or at least wait till the price goes down!
From the looks of this, it's a small footprint PCB, what looks like a "on the market processor" ($1-2) and a flash rom ($1-2). Total cost would be $3.50, but no more than 4.00 to produce and they are charging $65? :| No thanks!

Plenty of people have modded PS2's with 20+ wires inside them. This doesn't look to be too hard if you take your time and know how to solder. I don't think I'd recommend novice or beginner solder folks try this, but if regularly work on electronics it's not too bad. I'm probably going to order in the next month or two.

Face it guys...Microsoft and Nintendo have great prevention methods for their new hardware Anyone even hear about a group hacking the Gamecube? And no, don't give me the "Nobody would want to mod the Gamecube" arguement, because there are tons of people who are willing to mod their GC's.

http://www.gamecubeisos.com

gamecube was "hacked" weeks ago. check the videos. One guy simply took his cube apart and is using full size, burnt dvds to play games with. there's no protection on a gamecube disc other than it's size. no mod chip needed.
