Hot! XBOX & PS2 $149.99 after $30 rebate at Coconuts and FYE

I got an X-Box for $149 AR today!! My local Coconuts music store had them for sale at $179 with a $30 store rebate. The package was the Sega box with the S-controller and bonus games. They also threw in my choice of about five games (I chose Rallisport Challenge). Also, they were giving as a bonus a copy of The Matrix DVD and a Matrix Reloaded poster. They didn't have any left, but they let me substitute another DVD at equal or lesser value (Trainspotting).

They had PS2s under a similar $149 AR price.

The rebate is through Transworld, the parent company of Coconuts Music stores.

I don't know if these stores are nationwide. I couldn't find a website for them. This deal was in Alabama of all places.

Maybe this is how those $149 price rumors got going.

Edit: Here are the games that I can remember you could choose from:
Rallisport Challenge, NBA Inside Drive 2003, Amped, Blinx, Fuzion Frenzy, Oddworld

Edit 2: Apparently this deal is also available at FYE stores FYE Store Locator

Edit 3: Some people are saying that the stores are not giving the Sega bundle, so YMMV regarding the Sega games.

you know I thought I was going crazy.
I saw this in the window at the Coconuts up at the Summit in Bham, AL while I was there to see the matrix on Sunday and didn't pursue it much becase I was with a group of people. (although I didn't see the $30 rebate part, I thought it was just straight up $150)
Then when I got home I searched all over various forums and websites and nobody said anything about it so I thought well maybe I was seeing things.
But nope sure enough this is true.

i did a 411 search for one and found one in capistrano beach. i gave them a call and unfortuantely they were a bar and grill and didnt wanna sell me their x-box. i guess we're out of luck here.

FYI, FYE stores are also running this promotion (the one I called also mentioned the free matrix DVD). I guess coconuts and FYE stores are the same thing?

there is a new ps2 coming out soon. it will come with the dvd remote and netwrok adapter.

the laser is suppose to be stronger as well. they are suppose to be making it so it will read dvdrs. alot of people are putting home movies on dvdr now. this will be better for the hackers as well.

Man todays my birthday and I got a whole lot of money to buy something with, and I don't know what I want. I already have a PS2 with a lot of games I play, as well as the games I play on the computer. Another console would porlly not help much. But I so want to play Halo, and outlawz golf, and a few other titles. HMMMMM

Also, the new PS2 has a 40% quieter fan or something. And I think there's a built in IR for the remote.
I might actually wait for the new PS2 since there aren't really any games right now that I want. I'm waiting for MGS3 and GT4.
