Hot? YMMV: Costco has Coke made with sugar cane

My local Costco (Richmond, CA) had Coke made with sugar cane in glass bottles. It says "Made In Mexico" (actually, it says "Hecho en Mexico"). The store advertised the sugar cane part.

IMO, It tastes better than regular store-bought coke, more fountain-like. I don't know if it tastes "legendary." There was some discussion on OT about the benefits of sugar cane, so I thought ATers might like to know.

i know one thing from my friends experience with mexico.
never ever drink mexican water.

he drank water on a trip outside of mexico city. came back to the city with diarrhea and a horrific rash on his face.
which was probably from the water..

if you guys want to drink original coke, im pretty sure you can find the original mix recipe online.
mix the coke syrup, then add seltzer = original coke.

Hard to qualify this as hot if you don't mention the price.

Case of 24 355ml (12 ounces) in "NO RETORNABLE" glass bottles for $18.00

Case of (forget quantity: 32-48?) Classic Coke (12 ounce) cans for $8.50

As you can see that sugar cane is bloody more expensive than the regular stuff.

Unsafe? I used to know a guy who took a trip to Mexico and did drink the water. He got sick and is gone now, but, a lot of our own ancestors died from drinking the clear, clean, cold mountain stream water right here in the sometimes good-kinda old USA.

Drink coke, wine, beer....don't drink the unprocessed water anywhere if you don't have to or don't want to fart yourself to death and stink up the whole neighborhood.

Tap water here in the states is a great thing and a bargain not found hardly anywhere else in the whold world...not to mention other worlds....

Local grocery store now has 3 freaking aisles of water, plain bottled, imported fizzy, various flavored, and sodas. What a waste, as US has good water, or at worst water with taste issues easily remedied.

Penn and Teller did a show on water, filled all the bottles and pitchers from a hose out back and sold them in a "water boutique" with fancy names, like Aqua del Coolo.

Buying the syrup does nothing for you, its got the corn syrup in it already. I carried a case of sugar coke through the border in San Diego once, buying it at costco is a way better deal.

yeah not really a hot deal when you consider it is 75 cents a bottle but if you like the taste better then there's not really a pricetag you can put on enjoyment.

like one of the posters sais, all things in moderation... walk around a bit more and you wont have to worry about it making you fat or developing diabetes.

I do have to say that drinking the cane sugar vs. the HFCS version is likely to be marginally better for you, although a few bottles won't kill you. It'll probably be LESS sweet, if you ask me.

Heh, buddy, eyes don't lie. Look around yourself, and take note who is ordering the stuff in restaurants and buying it in stores, nuff said. The fact that the fast food places are pretty much there to sell soda is also a sad realization. Problem is soda makes too much money for powerful companies, and they don't give a damn what it does to the consumers, bah, the consumers don't care about it themselves! This makes it easy to let this go on, and then we wonder about where the obesity, diabetes, and heart attacks are coming from. Duh!
